Yanks created their own downfall. After the second goal every time they intercepted the ball they thought they could do the same counter attack again rather than keeping hold of the ball. When they inevitably lost it whilst trying to break, disaster. Yet they kept doing it. Naive.

I honestly thought they'd win it and I had 'Greece 2006' playing all over again (A 'small' team gets a goal, and defends valiantly to win cup).

Jozy = the New Heskey ... no doubt about it.

Donovan ... One nice goal and as usual, invisible most of the game.

C'mon, that is just criticism for the sake of it.

He scored a great goal in the final.. against Brazil. After that, the vastly inferior team for which he plays sat back and simply tried to stifle the opposition. What was he supposed to do that he didn't with the possession the USA had?

Just as the players where going in for the break, the US where pretty much celebrating with the subs coming onto the pitch, shaking their team-mates' hands and giving them pats on the back. You just knew Brazil where going to come back into it.

How the fuck did Maicon pull that back? [/quote]

He really impressed me in this tourney, more so than with Inter where he doesn't seem to have as an attacking role from the fullback slot. While I'm happy with Glen Johsnon, I can't help but think we could have had this guy for 8-10 million and he's hitting his prime now (27)

The US had something like 40% of the possession and I seriously can barely remember him holding the ball at all. That Davis lad, who seems to be a Baros clone with his running, touched the ball more and looked to make a difference. He does take a pretty solid corner though.

One more thing, Dempsey is one of those players teams must just hate to play against. He gives 100% every game, will score goals and is generally, a very underrated football player.

Yeah, I like Dempsey. Reminds me of a hybrid of Kuyt and Yossi.

I wanted to say, he's a very similar player to Kuyt - but seems to be a bit faster than Kuyt, but nowhere near as good stamina

I dunno man, you can say the same about some of the other US players. He was involved in the buildup and finish of a great goal to see them 2-0 up. In the 2nd half, they got pounded by Brazil and were always likely to end up losing.

It's like Ibra - he'll get slated for not winning the game no matter what the circumstances were just because of his rep.

Not really ... He's the main creative force of the US, they do well when he does well. In that kind of game, he needs to demand the ball and he went missing the entire second half. Inter win games without Ibra - as evident by their record against the top teams in Italy (where he struggles to score). I watched him a few times while I was living in the States agains the weaker teams - and you can tell what kind of player he is then. He looks for the ball, tries to dictate things ... He was average throughout imo (1 penalty and 1 great goal) as the leading force behind the surprise package of the tourney ...

He's a FA after this season, so we'll see where he ends up as he's made noises of wanting to play in Spain. He still seems soft to me ...

Right, now this fucking mickey mouse cup is finished - Lets crack on with buying someone from Valencia. C'mon Rafa, get on with it.

He has an ultra offensive role from right back for Inter and would cost about £25m on the current market. I think Chelsea are keen.
