What a game. I like the way both teams approached it. Both teams had a plan and stuck to it. We were probably the better team but Sarri have his players to run their socks off to close us down. And we made them run for their money. We stood high and won the ball back numerous times. Chelsea will not have a tougher home game this season.

The much-loved Duncan Castles can't even give fair ratings of LFC players these days. He seems to have a particular resentment of Gomez: '5/10: "The closest thing we have to Bobby Moore in years," according to one prominent pundit. But elite defenders don't fall asleep like Gomez did for Chelsea's opener'.
 
In no way was that goal on Gomez.
Trent went infield in advance of the ball and vacated his berth.
He should have been in position, Gomez was attempting to cover his arse.
 
That goal was a great goal. The neat interplay in midfield before they released a quick attacker. A typical Liverpool goal from last season.

I think Gomez could have stepped a couple of yards to the right to cover for Trent, but thats me being extremely harsh on Gomez.

Agree Gomez should have been quicker in his thinking. Doubtful it would have affected the outcome

Elite defenders don't play centre back at the highest level at 21, at least not 'recently' (last few decades) regularly, so their mistakes aren't highlighted & they don't have to face such a high calibre of opposition.

Of course he'll make fucking mistakes, he's 21 years of fucking age, & as I've said so often, at that age players always make mistakes, hence why they don't usually play at centre back until they're older at this level.

The fact he makes so few is almost miraculous imo.
 
I noticed on MOTD that Klopp's first reaction to Sturridge's goal was to go back to the bench & hug Mo.

Was he just trying to stop him throwing bottles?

Yep. He saved the ones he was meant to save and a couple he wasn’t. The goal was great placement by Hazard - plus Hazard struck the ball into the ground first, creating a difficult-to-read bounce. No keeper stops it.

Those two things are totally seperate.
And im not ‘blaming’ him for the goal, if anyone is to blame its Trent.
But I still believe he should be saving that.
Anyway....
