Bye Bye Kenny???????

I'm sick of all these Pathé-generation fans wanting a bit of patience for Kenny. Aga-style thinking at its worst.

Hahaha. I can't help it, it's the way I was brought up. We used to be able to manage a team ok when we were playing Subbuteo. Took ages to set up though. Not like these days with your fangled CDROMs and FIFA 12 and stuff.

I could never get with Subbuteo. I can't imagine a more fruitless way for a young man to spend his time than perfecting the precision flicking skills required for success.

It was never like on the adverts. It was shite to be honest

I got slightly involved on a similar, more magnetic version.

That was jarg too tbh

No no knob twiddling. You flicked players still, but they could roll a bit. You pressed down on their heads to pass the ball. It was exactly like subbuteo, but without the kuyt like touches

Subbuteo - the joys of childhood. I remember having the astro like pitch. gave up with the cloth - all that ironing!

The world before computers was fucking shit. I spent the 10 years of my life pre ZX Spectrum dribbling against a window wondering what the point of anything was.

Yup. We're 8th, 36 points behind them, yet have "a better squad".

What world are you people living in?

30 fucking 6 points, unbelievable. Nearly double our points total, send this is with a far weaker team than they had a few years back.

We're better than where we are now though, and don't give me none of that shit about the 'table doesn't lie', that's based on a number of factors, like the manager you guys are so keen to see gone, and other factors like the Suarez incident, injuries, etc.

The squad is better than what it's showing at the moment. I don't agree with the United man for man comments, but I do believe that because of the mentality and philosophy instilled in their club (over decades I might add, not one season), they can get players punching above their weight and easing into a system without much disruption. We need to start that, but it takes time, and patience. So that's us fucked then.

liverpool are no where near manu with regards to squad depth. we lost agger and lucas and dropped down the table, manu could lose the equivalent players and cope much better than we have.

I also agree with mark that we are much better than the table suggests, there have been far too many games where we didn't get what our performances deserves. examples are city, manu, arsenal at home and stoke away. we need to learn to clinical because in a lot of games we've created more than enough chances to win by half time. difficult to know if in the summer we can fix enough of our problems to challenge for CL as I suggest the likes of chelsea, arsenal and spurs will improve further.

"Nowhere near" is an exaggeration in terms of basic footballing ability. The difference between their squad and ours isn't that theirs contains far better players. It's that they consistently get the best out of theirs, and we're not doing the same with ours. We've shown against the top sides this season what we ARE capable of when our players rouse themselves to play to their potential.

That is certainly part of it. They have a way of playing and a winning mentality that makes it easier for squad players to come in when they have injuries and suspensions.

However, quality of players must play a part too. I'm sure most of our players could in theory go into the United side and do well, but how many of them would be stand-out, star players? Gerrard a few years ago would have been, and maybe Suarez now, but no-one beyond that really.

You could argue that Reina and Agger would make the United team.

Richey: wouldn't argue with that (except to say I don't think there's any doubt about Suarez' place in the stand-out star category - just ask the Mancs themselves if you don't believe me!). My point is that the same could be said about the Mancs' squad.

Well that is the point I was making. A lot of our players could get into the United side and would probably not look out of place, which by definition sadly means that they would do a lot better than they do for us. But not many would be star players for United would they? That is part of the difference.
