Burnley vs Liverpool Match Thread

Unexpected 3 points while hoping to get only 1. Great that we can graft and grind a result. Happy New Year!!!,

I don't think he's simply sulking.

He's not playing in his favoured position cos salah is tearing it up there, & he's coming back from a muscle injury which has to be treated very carefully & means he can't use that explosive pace as much, his muscle reactions are slower & he's forced to play a little within himself.

It's hardly surprising we're not seeing the best of him.

Just saw him interviewed after. He said he was feeling ill, and looked it, too.

Mane was sulking for the entire match the drama queen.

Great goal though.
Nah, the balls into him was poor and so was some of the movement of the other front 2.
I don't think it was fair to him to take him on while the rest of 2 were on, was it an injury?

Unbeaten in 13 games. Brilliant for this time of year. Frustrating too though when you think that two of those were 0-0s against WBA and Everton at home and that fucking 5 minutes vs Arsenal.

As the team continues to gel, I think we are going to go deep in a number of competitions, solidify top 4 and will be ready to hit the ground running next season too. I'm loving us at the moment, as the good games are simply great.

No Hendo.

No Salah.

No Mane.

Probably no Coutinho.

That forward line on Friday is gonna look similar to today & probably play as poorly too.

Midfield will almost certainly be the same too.

Why no Coutinho, you think he'll be sold to Barca or something? He was rested today to play against Everton (alongside Firmino), Mane was subbed early so he can probably start too, Milner will start in midfield and Robertson back at LB. We will have a stronger lineup than we were able to field against Burnley after playing on Saturday.

Yeah, and Solanke loses the ball A LOT when holding up the ball.
Again, it’s probably unfair on him because players around him today were really static, and he had loads of Burnley players on him the moment he received the ball.
But that again is the reason I find his style unsuited to us.

I don't think it's the style - he is TRYING to do all the right things, make the runs, create space, interchange positions etc. He's nothing like Benteke - but at the moment he just can't do the things he's trying to do, making correct runs but just just a bit too late, heavy touch when he receives the ball, can't fool defenders. He's very young and will surely improve; stylistically I think he suits Klopp's game very well, it's the level of performance that's the problem at the moment.

Coutinho is meant to be carrying a knock & hasn't been training. That may change obv.

Mane flies back from Africa Friday morning. I struggle to see Klopp playing him at all that evening, never mind starting him.

Firmino starting will be better than today obv, Robertson seems good, but for all his brilliant crossing against Everton last time they dealt with it time & again & it actually seemed to be what they wanted & expected to deal with.

Friday will not be fun, & it will not be pretty.

If we're lucky, fat Sam will treat the fa Cup like he usually does & try to get knocked out on purpose, but unfortunately he knows their fans won't stand for that.

Why is Mane going to Africa? I had no idea.

He & Salah have an awards ceremony. Heard a piece the other day where a journo close to the club said that both players thought it was incredibly important to attend & that it's a way of Klopp showing them how much they mean to the club ahead of potential suitors coming in for them in the summer.

Yes ...these awards will add value to their stock once we sell them to Barca in two years time after coutinho starys to tap them.

If Sturridge goes to Southampton this week, there's no way we can let Ings go out on loan too. I'm all for giving young talent a chance, but as of right now Solanke is nowhere near ready is he?
No, he definitely isn't. The Burnley CBs gave him a lesson today.

Solankes confidence is in his boots.

Pre season he looked raring to go, only for him to have to wait a while before he got any decent minutes. As time has passed he's trying to force play too much, or the nerves are hindering his touch

Similar to crouch years ago, he just needs one to fluke in

Definitely this - as soon as he gets his first goal - I think he could be prolific. Even in the few minutes he had with England you could see he is an intelligent player with his runs and positioning. It was such a shame that in the Swansea game Lallana did not pass to him when he was in such a good position to score. Today's team was the right team in many ways against that team because the did not park the bus like last season given the players we put out and the formation we had. By giving park the bus teams some hope - it forces them to come out a bit and actually our quality overall beat them.

The only problem with this is when does he get another chance? I guess the hope is to get him on more consistently and earlier when we're a couple of goals up.

He did actually score a couple of weeks back. Unfortunately (IMHO) it was a "winner" that was unfairly ruled out.
If that had stood the pressure would be off and I'm sure we'd be seeing a different player

He was pretty shit today. Look, not putting the ball in the nets is one thing, that's tough. But losing pretty much every arial duel and largely failing to hold the ball up– that's not acceptable. He's not ready yet.

Hes young and up against a very well drilled defence that dont give you an inch. At least he is battling ... something which our other forwards cant really bring to the game.

I think as a young player, you have to be able to take your chances.
He's had a few chances as a starter, I don't think he's done enough. It's hard for a young player but with a top 5 team, you have to be able to take your chances when you come on, just how it is. Rather see Ings start ahead of him for any games in the future if Firminho is not.
