Bournemouth post-match

I support the team too.

But I don't and won't support that man.
Hes the manager of the team Peter. You can rail against that all you want but it is what it is.
Doesnt matter. Each to their own. Just not really feeling like there is anything worth feeding off on here right now.

The odd thing about Liverpool v Bournemouth was that, although it was a poor performance, you couldn't say that any one player had a bad game. The problem was a lack of cohesion - the same as the start of last season. Coutinho tried hard to make things happen, but whenever he released the ball, the impetus was lost. I'm sure that as the season progresses, the players will begin to meld with each other, but the problem is that we are likely to lose points while they are in the process.

Henderson was taken off due to a minor foot injury he picked up last week. He tried to play through the pain with painkillers but the amount of running was too much for him. If I was a gambling man, I'd say he'd be fine for the Arsenal game.

That's encouraging - the way Henderson trudged off gave the impression that he didn't want to be taken off. It wasn't his best match but I think we missed him when he wasn't there. I am hoping that he builds up an understanding with Milner which wasn't apparent on last night's showing.

Reading this forum this morning has almost destroyed whatever happiness I got out of that win. I like to think I'm no mewling wimp of a supporter, and that I'm fairly capable of seeing things from an objective point of view so I don't think anyone can criticise me for being overly optimistic. But really, the fucking moaning and agenda-driven rubbish throughout this entire place stinks.

Some of you just need to stop being dicks.

I watched the same game you did. Don't know what match some of the others tuned into. Or who pissed in their cereal.

I dont think I can put up with this too much longer.
All this teeth, chancer stuff. All this hate and billious shite aimed at our manager and our players. Even when we win.
Its like proper personal, like the way opposition fuckwits talk about our club.
Im really at the point where there just isnt anything of great benefit to read on here. Its just two sides of one long tedious argument.

I love you guys but it just doesnt give me any happiness coming in here anymore. Does it any of you?
If I want to constantly listen to fans calling our players and manager cunts and hoping we lose I could join redcafe.

Id probably feel less annoyed in fact because I expect it from them.
Imagine really genuinely wanting us to lose!? Fucked up.

The sooner we get back to calling each other cunts rather than the manager and players, the better.

Anyway.... how disgraceful is it that a team containing 5 players making their home debut in only their second game together at the start of the season are not playing like a cohesive unit and monstering weaker opposition.

If only we had the cohesion and winning mentality of Chelsea at this stage of the season.

I used to think the club's a joke cos of its managers and players.

Now I'm beginning to think the biggest joke are the 'loyal' fans. Best set of fans in the world my arse.

.........In spite of a good performance, benteke is so isolated. He comes deep for the ball, but no one runs ahead of him. He wins a flick on high up, more often than not he has to control it, or pass it back to the centre circle.

It's like our attacking players are terrified to go past bent eke..........

The problem is the midfield mate. Without a proper DM whoever is playing in midfield doesn't seem to have a remit to get forward except when the team as a whole goes forward.
Milner, Henderson, Lallana .. all spent time deep, especially Lallana who you would have expected to be further forward since he was playing in the position he prefers, central. However he was often the 'out ball' for the defence. If he was not supposed to be dropping so deep then one of Milner/Henderson should have been, but weren't. If Rodgers wanted him further forward then why didn't the instructions go out ? I'm not blaming the players for yesterday's performance, I'm blaming the setup and the manager.

The keeper got a hand to it...

Yes it really surprised me the commentators missed that, even after the replays, and it seems almost everyone on here did too. He took it on the half-volley, not easy but it could have found the back of the net bar a good save.

Central midfield was poor tonight and got worse when henderson went off. Positionally Can is naive and for me he reacts to situations rather than anticipates them which doesn't usually make a good defensive midfielder.
I think it would be foolish to play Lallana , Coutinho and Ibe in the same team against Arsenal as their midfield would run riot.
I can't stand Moreno but he did very well when he came on, maybe he can contribute more from left midfield as he doesn't have to defend as much.
Gomez played well again and looks very composed for the most part which is even more impressive considering he's still learning how to play left back.
Mignolet has gone three steps backwards from the 2nd half of last season.Looked indecisive and glued to his line again.More worringly was the times he did come for a cross and got nowhere near it.
All in all i think Bournemouth deserved a goal for some good pressure, especially in the second half and I was quite relieved to hear the final whistle. Please to have six points so far but a long way from convinced about us being much better than last year.

This was going to get a 'LIKE' until I read the bit about Mignolet. He was excellent tonight. Yes he missed ONE cross, most keepers have a moment or two per game, however for the rest he held on well, collected the ball well, kicked better, punched OK and was generally sound throughout. He probably stayed back because Lovren/Skrtel were often deep in the box and keepers who come out too much get headers nodded past them. he never looked troubled and overall he was very solid.

Absolutely spot on and exactly what I thought after the match. The parts are all there, they just need to come together with better fitness, awareness born of familiarity and tactics from the management.

I don't think anyone played poorly but some could have had better games, made fewer mistakes (which in Skrtel and Lovren's cases if they do the same against Arsenal will be punished) and the team lacked cohesion but it's early days and there's much much more to come from this team.

Outstanding : No-one
Good : Benteke, Milner, Coutinho (not his day but still good), Henderson, Gomez, Clyne (MoM), Mignolet, Moreno.
Average : Lallana, Firmino
Made mistakes but overall just OK : Ibe, Can, Skrtel, Lovren.

I had a long post in mind - but I read Ryan's and that's pretty much ok.

A bit worried about how poorly we passed, but we had some brilliant sweeping moves that didn't result in goals, and there is some really good chemistry between Benteke/Coutinho ...

Benteke had some lovely touches ... ran his socks off ... and should have had one more goal to his name. He's almost impossible to beat in the air - which means many 'long balls' we used to get nothing off of last year will become opportunities for Coutinho etc to run onto. I actually think a Sturridge/Benteke combo could work ... and work well.

Overall, happy with a win ... and let's hope a early headed goal off a corner will give us a 1-0 win over Arsenal.

Yeah, saw the highlights again this morning. Boruc got a touch and made a great save from Bentekes shot.
We've could have had a second if Coutinho had his left shooting boot on.

Agree wholeheartedly with Andy and Ryan. Top posts.

Yeah, saw the highlights again this morning. Boruc got a touch and made a great save from Bentekes shot.

Yeah he did, true. But Benteke still should have fucking buried it, and not allowed Boruc to get anywhere near it.

We'll need a better performance next week from Gomez and whoever is playing ahead of him needs to put in a better shift to help him. He wasn't poor by any measure, but he wasn't commanding either, and I felt nervy the whole night as Bournemouth pressed him high and hard and focused a lot of their attacks down his side. Moreno coming on helped to give him more protection - it's something that I hope whoever plays at LW next week will do as well. Sanchez will be a very difficult matchup for Gomez at this stage of his career, so hopefully we'll have a plan to help him.

Gomez is.... a wonderfully talented 18 yr old defender, playing his first few games at the highest level, in an unusual role, with no experience.

That he's looks so good is testament to his potential.

He's going to get raped by an experienced top class attacker soon.

It won't make him shit.

And hopefully, instead of a season-long debate about 'Lovren or Sakho,' we'll at some point see Rodgers try him out where he should be at centre back.

If we know that hes vulnerable and still allow that to happen then we are fools. Sanchez will make most defenders in the league look amateur, just like Aguero did to the best defense in the league. If Sanchez sees plenty of the ball thens hes gong to do a number on the kid and cause us all sorts of problems. We need to cut off the supply to him rather than expect an 18 year old CB to better him in 1 on 1 duel. If our midfield gets dominated again we will be battered by Arsenal as they have too many skillful attacking players.

It was good to see Moreno come on and look much more positive. He's been identified as lazy by the coaching staff and he's got to respond, so it was a decent start, but he's got to bust a gut at Melwood from now on if he's got any future here.
