Bournemouth post-match

The point about a lack of cohesion would be much stronger if we didn't look like that every time we played this formation last season.

I know it's a broad analysis, but I think we look solid on defence because we have at least 2 midfielders shielding it, which then means we're useless going forward.

I think it's obvious that's a big part of it. The next step is to tinker and figure out how to balance out the side.

We're arguably not making the best use of Henderson and Milner if we limit their role but I think for now it's what the team needs.

I think we've too many players in the starting 11 who need to be on the ball a lot to be effective - getting rid of one of those and swapping in Firmino to play off Benteke might be what we need

Jon - I think Hendo has been out of form all pre-season and against Stoke too. This is the first game in a while he's looked like getting back to his better form. Hopefully it bodes well for the Arsenal game (assuming he's fit).

Firmino is big bastard. Wasn't expecting that. I thought he as some little garcia courtinoid thing.

I dont think I can put up with this too much longer.
All this teeth, chancer stuff. All this hate and billious shite aimed at our manager and our players. Even when we win.
Its like proper personal, like the way opposition fuckwits talk about our club.
Im really at the point where there just isnt anything of great benefit to read on here. Its just two sides of one long tedious argument.

I love you guys but it just doesnt give me any happiness coming in here anymore. Does it any of you?
If I want to constantly listen to fans calling our players and manager cunts and hoping we lose I could join redcafe.

Id probably feel less annoyed in fact because I expect it from them.
Imagine really genuinely wanting us to lose!? Fucked up.

Absolutely.

I haven't read this thread.

We started the season before last with a series of not particularly inspiring 1-0 wins and the performance improved over time. I'd settle for a repeat with a slightly happier ending

We will win the league this year

It's early doors though, I'm sure he'll find his feet & start to influence the attacking side some more as the season wears on. Again too, it could be a conscious thing to keep us more solid & in possession until we've weathered the storm of this run of games coming up.

I suppose if / when Can shows he's ready to be trusted to take on the holding / defensive role in the midfield, Henderson will be freed to do more creative work up front. Having said that, Henderson could still be required to return to that role again at some point if / when Sturridge returns and hits form, forcing Rodgers' hand in starting both him and Benteke.

Is it just me or are they overanalyzing the hell out of the goal we scored and Bournemouths disallowed one.

Cant see why people think its a soft foul. He's got both hands on Lovren so that he cant jump. Its a foul all day.
Coutinho was offside and with the new rules it should have been disallowed. But I couldnt care less.
We got the short end of the stick with several incidents last season. Seem to remember two offside goals at OT among others.

But that new rule will cause a lot of grief if the officials dont even know how they work.

Gomez could easily have given away a pen anyway for the way he was practically mugging another one of their players closer to Mignolet. We need to cut all of that right out of our defending. It used to just be Skrtel but now they're all at it.

I'm not that bothered because I feel we deserved the result, it was a close game, but we edged it, and deserved the win. If we didn't play very well and the got lucky, i'd be more concerned, but we had more than enough chances to win.

Skrtel did it at one point last night, too.

Attackers now all do what the savvy ones have the last couple of seasons though, they grab the defenders shirt & back into them, which seems to make most of them do the same in return, then they push or pull away & let go of the defenders shirt, and all the ref or anyone else sees is the defender pulling an attacker by the shirt.

I don't know if it is just me, but watching the writhing scrimmage of players, each desperately trying to follow their man around the box at corners (something that encourages all that Greek wrestling style grappling), I couldn't help thinking that I'd be very happy to bring back Zonal marking.

Agree in theory but I wonder if it's quite that simple in practice. I strongly suspect the rest are all doing it, and the top four teams don't seem to suffer for it. If we alone apply some kind of self-denying ordinance in this respect, could we not end up losing more than we gain by doing so?

I don't know. Alan Smith, for example, seems to have some personal campaign going against us in that respect - he started it with Skrtel about a year or so ago. Thankfully Skrtel seemed to minimise it in the latter part of last season but they're all at it again now. Is it coached or is it just ignored? Refs watch the pundits just as much as the players do - that helped get Suarez treated as a serial diver even when he was getting hacked down. We could easily get made an example of with all the holding. I don't like it anyway - it's not good defending - but we should at least be more cute about it.

Yeah he did, true. But Benteke still should have fucking buried it, and not allowed Boruc to get anywhere near it.

Absolutly mate, should have scored. Think he said so himself after the game aswell.
