Bournemouth post-match

We won, 6 points from 6 is all you can ask for. I don't agree with a lot of what Rodgers does but happy we got 6 points that is a good start, now the tricky ties come round, that's the worry.

I thought we looked a lot lot more solid and compact defensively, I thought we'd actually be able to deal with anything they threw at us at the end, unlike usually feeling that a goal coming is inevitable. Mignolet has the most clean sheets in the premier league in 2015, and now he looks even more protected which is a good thing.
Going forward we look a bit disjointed, but I'm putting that down to fitness at the moment.
2 games, 2 wins, 2 clean sheets. Looking good.
I'd take the bore draw next week, but I fancy Benteke to nick one against their ropey defenders, and cech is all the show at the moment.

If we win ugly all the way to the title, would you accept it ?

'Course we all would.

The question, however, I believe we will be asking ourselves is - Should we sack Brodge or not even after he's delivered the title ?

I think that's kinda the general sentiment or hypothesis (if you like) in here right now.

Lithgow in attendance but where's Graham?

Moment of the match.

My freinds and I being in bulk over the comment he made in respect of Eddie Howe during the post match interviews.

'Eddie Howe messes with my head.. look at him, he talks without moving his teeth'

We suddenly became fixated on Eddie Howe.. my mate was spot on.. I was pissing my self laughing..

Watch Eddie Howes interviews and you will see exactly what I am taking about..

I am now completely unable to take Eddie Howe seriously in any shape or form..

Soon as he starts talking I cannot help but laugh

To be fair, no one moves their teeth.

There should be a charity klopp box where you have to put a quid in it every time you say his name. He lost his first two games last season and was bottom of the league at Christmas. Whereas we've just gone and had the best transfer window for aeons and are invincible.

I'll take a scrappy 1-0 over a dominant 1-1 any day but the midfield signs are worrying.

We need a midfielder that can control the tempo of the game from the base of midfield. It's a glaring weakness on paper and - though early days - its bearing fruit on the pitch.

If Rodgers doesn't address this, I'll be cracking some skulls. Sort it out. And do it yesterday.

This was going to get a 'LIKE' until I read the bit about Mignolet. He was excellent tonight. Yes he missed ONE cross, most keepers have a moment or two per game, however for the rest he held on well, collected the ball well, kicked better, punched OK and was generally sound throughout. He probably stayed back because Lovren/Skrtel were often deep in the box and keepers who come out too much get headers nodded past them. he never looked troubled and overall he was very solid.
I wasn't the only one that seemed to think he was indecisive. Most of the kop were screaming for him to come off his line more than he did. At one point there was an aerial challenge between one of their strikers and i think Skrtel where the ball looped up into the air about 5 yards from gooal. All Mignolet would have to have done was step a couple of yards forward and catch it but he stood on his line and the defence had to scramble it away. He looked a bit jittery to me which is strange seeing the back four haven't made too many mistakes in the first couple of games.
And he definately missed more than ONE cross.

Anyway.... how disgraceful is it that a team containing 5 players making their home debut in only their second game together at the start of the season are not playing like a cohesive unit and monstering weaker opposition.

If only we had the cohesion and winning mentality of Chelsea at this stage of the season.

That's pretty much it.

Add in that the other players are being asked to play in a different manner than they played in the last few seasons.

Anyone expecting us to be the finished package this early in the season is mental. I can see why there's some concerns but it's safe to say we'll get better as the season goes on.

And hopefully, instead of a season-long debate about 'Lovren or Sakho,' we'll at some point see Rodgers try him out where he should be at centre back.

I was wondering this yesterday. Is this why he seems willing to let Sakho go (politics aside)? I wonder if he's willing to use Gomez there eventually this season if he feels he needs to? It's common for teams to blood young centre backs at fullback, as we well know, and we have Skrtel, Lovren, Toure (Ahem), Gomez and Ilori. Seems, at least on paper, enough to be getting on with. They deserve a go.

I know Sakho has his fans, but I was never that convinced by him, same with Lovren.

Well Ross - it's unlike you to be the voice of reason [emoji2]

Then again.... it's not like we don't have the odd "mental" poster [emoji6]

I'm reasonable every now and again. It's far from odd.

I'd be willing to bet most of the upset posters would have guessed two weeks we'd have started slow for the same reasons that people have outlined in this thread

Fuck me.

Six points out of fucking six.

Who gives a shit about the finer points? Some teams are playing well (Arsenal, Bournemouth, West Ham) but haven't won both games, Utd have been fucking awful despite spending 176 billion quid & mortgaging their stadium to pay wages for the next four years, but have done the same as us points wise.

Most teams look a bit like us, disjointed & finding their feet. You know, cos the seasons only two games old.

There's a few areas of concern, sure, but it is very unlikely we'll get worse, & we're defensively solid. Given the games coming up its easy to assume that's the priority & going into this run with two clean sheets & no keeping howlers etc would have been the primary goal.

I think if we'd have played scintillating passing football & won both matches 3-2 or similar I'd have been much more worried going into the arsenal match next week.

We've all, all, said Rodgers biggest fault is not being able to organise a defence, yet we have two clean sheets & a pretty solid looking defence (anyone who thinks Bournemouth aren't gonna get chances like that against the majority of teams is deluded, they're very good on the ball), so credit where it's due.

We have the inconsistent yet magical Countinho who seems to be going missing only for portions of a match instead of the entire thing, Benteke showing some real skill & fantastic touches & shots despite having no real game time before the start of the season, Milner is looking every inch the player we hoped he'd be, Gomez looks like we've got a young fully consistent Glen Johnson again, Clyne also looks adept at both defending & getting forwards to support the midfield (a rarity in our side the last few seasons), Lovren & Skrtel haven't made any fuck ups making me wonder how they made it as footballers at any level, Mignolet is catching the ball, & holding onto it instead of inviting pressure straight back with silly short passes.

Lallana, Henderson & Firmino haven't done anything to write home about yet, but they've not made any major fuck ups either & you could see how much Hendo makes a difference when he went off.
Ibe meanwhile made a difference without being the instant Sterling replacement so many deluded fans thought he'd be.

There's also Rodgers record in early season to consider. His sides always, always start slowly & usually drop points, then improve throughout the season.

We've started slowly, yet have a lot of positives to consider & have a 100% win record.

Get a fucking grip people.

The biggest concern I had last night...apart from would I actually get into the ground in time for kick-off (I did, just)...was the way in which the midfield was at times completely overrun, especially in the period between Henderson going off and Moreno coming on. Henderson has become another of those players who you really only fully appreciate when they're not there. Moreno did well to shore things up and Rodgers deserves credit for spotting it and addressing it. He's made good use of his subs in the first two games.

Agree with all of that, apart maybe from what you've said about Henderson. He brings a solidity to the midfield that clearly isn't there when he is absent. Not our most spectacular player but arguably our most important.

I'm a big Henderson fan leftpeg, & he does make a huge difference, but he is capable of so much more.

For instance, the long looping through ball that the commentators were slobbering over from countinho to benteke, Henderson has regularly played balls like that when he's on the top of his game, yet is playing within himself enough to not try them currently.

He's being a solid 6.5/7 out of 10 currently, but he has it in him to be a consistent 7.5/8.5 imo.

It's early doors though, I'm sure he'll find his feet & start to influence the attacking side some more as the season wears on. Again too, it could be a conscious thing to keep us more solid & in possession until we've weathered the storm of this run of games coming up.
