Post Match Bologna (H) - Weds 20:00

I watched a bit of Slot post match - he said because they mark man for man the only option was to use Ali and build from the back. Interesting but for my nerves I'm glad most teams don't press like that
The forwards were static when the goal kicks were happening. You could see the CBs and Ali knocking it about but nobody tried to escape the press.

Salah with the type of goal that’s I’ve been told he isn’t capable of anymore and sets up the opening goal too.

For a player who’s clearly not worth a new contract and on the decline he doesn’t half produce more moments that matter than anyone else in the squad.

Patrick - It was a glorious cross, it was a glorious goal.

He's still got great skill, and he still sometimes still has moments of magic. But that's what they are these days... Moments. When's the last time he actually scored from that cut-across-the-top-of-the-box-and-shoot trademark move of his, before last night? Seriously, please tell me.

I saw only the highlights yesterday, and he was a huge part of that 6 minute package. However, more than one person here (at least one of whom was physically at Anfield), have said that the did bugger all else in the game.

Why do you take people highlighting his all-too-obvious (unless you simply refuse to see it) decline in the past 2 years or so the way I'd act if somebody had slapped my mother..? I have never, ever seen anybody act soooooo preciously about a player as you do about Mo. Not even when we were children. It's ok to love somebody, recognize that they're a club legend AND that they're not the player that they used to be....

You're either absolutely obsessed with this fella - and I mean Baby Reindeer obsessed - or you're playing a character... If it's the first, get help, mate. If it's the second, get more help, mate. This predictable-as-the-sunrise 'See!?!?!?! He's still the greatest players ever!!!!!!' shite every few weeks, like you're the only person who can see that he's a good player, is insufferable, mate.

I truly believe that, given the option, you'd rather see us lose, but Mo play well, than dominate without him. And I'm sure that I'm not the only one...

I think inverse can be said on here too. Some would prefer to see us lose with Salah not contributing as long it helps narrative.

Strikers are often players he live on moments, it's pretty same on all levels of football. Not often you see a striker who is being dominant and impactful of every minute. Salah so far this season has been more than fine, maybe I have lower standards but has been our best striker since been here (maybe one season where Mane was better!) but you can gauge a lot from how his team mates talk about him including Ali and players who have since left. Grateful he's still here, and just enjoying Salah moments as much as possible.

When you have moments in most games then an analogy about a broken clock being right twice is laughable and null and voids any chance that a view on a player can be taken seriously. Unless you mean the broken clock analogy applies per game as Salah invariably scores a goal, creates a goal or a glorious goal scoring opportunity for his teammates every single game.
I couldn’t give a toss what people think of me or if they think I’d rather see us lose. Again what an insane position for anyone take.
I want us to win every single match and while yes I love Salah, it’s because he’s earned it. While Mane was here I preferred him and was vocal about that. Salah has earned my respect and while he obviously is not scoring goals like he used to he still is scoring more than anyone else by a country mile.
I’ve always been firmly in the camp of I don’t care how you do it as long as you produce and Salah continues to much to the disappointment of many fans it seems.
Your view on me is as laughable as me saying some fans would prefer we lose and Salah stinks the place out than win because he scored his 10th chance of the game. Both views are nonsense.

Also I think you and anyone else with that view is entirely missing the point. The are called highlights for a reason. They are the biggest impact on the end result and it’s the hardest thing to do in football.
Score a goal, followed by setting a goal up.
Salah’s biggest crime is that he makes it look so easy people brush it off almost like it’s shit that scoring goals and assisting goals papering over the cracks of his decline.
Fuck me, if that’s papering over the cracks, long may it continue.
Diaz caught fire for 3 games and everyone creams themselves. Salah who supposedly is rubbish again after a good first 3 games has quietly moved to the top of our goals chart, top of our assists chart and top of our big chances created chart.
Not to mention the fact he’s basically a machine with his ability to play almost every game (hammy injury last season aside, which he has recovered amazingly from) compared to the likes of Jota, make it laughable he continues to be a focal point for discussion when discussing problems in our team. He is constantly in the top 3 talking points when he should bottom of a very very long list.
It reminds me of Rosco’s ridiculous stance that we were better without Suarez in the team!!

My view on you is based on how you present yourself, every single time you're on here. It's only as laughable as the image you project onto our forum.

And my broken clock analogy was pointing out the silliness of the hyperbolic "See?!?!?!?!?!..." that we always get from somebody, usually you, in the most snide, condescending manner, as if one great performance in four means he's still the best player in the world. When you say shit like "He scored a goal I was assured by everybody that he can't score anymore...", it that ridiculous tone, as if that means we've been wrong to point out that he hasn't done it in years (you still haven't told me when he last did that, by the way), you illicit such a response - It's about YOU, not about Mo.

I agree with the 2nd paragraph, mate. Almost word for word. The only place that we disagree (I think), is that I don't think building our future around him is still the sensible thing to do... Being our best striker doesn't mean that we can't do better if we choose to go a different direction. Rushie was our best striker once, too.

As for the 1st line, I disagree. At least, I've never seen anybody not celebrate a Liverpool win, when Salah scored to ensure it. Conversely, I have noticed a handful of people who will sometimes contribute very little, if anything at all, to a match or post-match thread if Mo's been poor or hasn't scored.

Confirmation bias is a wonderful thing eh.
I know full well it’s about me which makes the opinions on Salah even more baseless. Play the ball not the man as the saying goes but many can’t.
But I couldn’t care less, I’ll continue to point out why Salah should get a new contract every week until he does or he leaves.
He’s closing in on being our greatest ever player. If the courts do the right thing he’ll be on 3 premier league titles along with big ears and a host of other trophies. The only sad part is the fact he’d prob have another CL medal if not for that prick Ramos.
It sickens me he gets the abuse he does. I don’t ever recall Rush getting similar treatment in his later years even when his goals dried up (apart from that outrageous hatrrick away to Blackburn in the league cup in his final season)

What abuse? This is EXACTLY what I'm talking about...

The worst that anybody (that I've seen) is saying about him is along the lines of 'he's clearly not what he once was (when the was the best in the world), though he still scores, he now misses a lot more often, and a lot of attacks break down these past two years or so, due to his selfishness (which has always been there, and cost us at times), which is hurting more than it used to'.

Nobody is 'abusing' him. He's a legend. He's loved by everybody.

We're pointing out facts. And you're reacting like we're claiming that he tortures orphans.

Ha ha, im guessing you don’t read match threads then. Salah gets abuse on a consistent level that no other player does and I would argue shouldnt get, considering how consistently he has delivered week in week out for 7 years.
Your best attacking player is always going to see more of the ball and as a result will always fuck up more attacks than anyone else. Salah gets virtually zero leeway from the majority, it’s fucking sickening. When he starts scoring 8 goals a season then we can talk about replacing him. Until then let him continue to prove every fucker wrong that he’s got ‘max 18 months left at the top’ (that was banded about heaps of times last season ffs). Salah is capable of leading our line for another 3/4 years without breaking a sweat. His fitness levels and shire desire is up there with Messi and Ronaldo who both did it at the top til their mid 30’s.

Well, I'll be watching for 'abuse' closely on Saturday morning...

And, if MORE attacks are breaking down due to our best attacking player now, than happened a few years back, and if screamers like yesterday's are now the exception rather than the normal (like a few years ago), that's a sign that he's not as good as he used to be. Which is all that anybody is saying, because anybody can see it by simply watching the matches.

Unless they steadfastly refuse to acknowledge it, that is.

Given some of the other results of this CL day, with several of the “big boys” beaten, I would not downplay the importance of winning this game. Playing against a 1 on 1 pressing team (seems like this tactic is spreading! It used to be only Bielsa’s Leeds who played this way) is always a specific challenge that you need to get used to overcoming and overall I think Bologna were far better than AC Milan, for example. We could have easily dropped points against them with a bit less concentration or luck. Instead, Slot’s Reds are marching on.
^ this. Many of the biggies got beat.

Kind of disappointed by that performance. Yes, the result is paramount but by Christ we looked terrified at the end of the first half. Gifting chances like that is a concern, as it's not something we've really seen yet from slot.
Becker kept us in that match. I still say the biggest weakness in this team is the attack— they’re so wasteful.

I think it obvious his play is different now. I think it’s also obvious he’s still scoring as many as he usually has bar his freak break out season. I would say his ability to assist seems to have improved and it makes a mockery of the claim he’s more selfish than normal because he’s trying to win a new contract.
Ultimately his play is different but he’s adjusted to be arguably as effective in terms of important contributions to decide games.

I'm guessing you don't read the Nunez threads then 😉
Ha ha I said Salah doesn’t deserve it because of his ongoing contribution to the club. Nunez has contributed much less and it’s understandable the hate he gets even if I also don’t like it.
