Post Match RB Leipzig - Weds Oct 23rd 20:00

We were brilliant 30 mins of the first half, some of the football as good as I have seen us play.
Gakpo should have scored at the start of the second half then maybe game would have been easier than we made it.

I'm struggling to work this team out really. We have periods of looking absolutely awful but also periods of looking pretty decent.

The defence has looked pretty good on the whole but at the same time the opposition keep fumbling their way to goal as well. Last night Leipzig could've been in on goal on a number of occasions were it not for a stupid touch etc. Now, I know you can say that goes both ways, but in terms of analyzing our own defensive capabilities, you have to think that at some point, if we don't improve, it'll start to hurt us?

The midfield, at times this season, and Gravenberch in particular, has looked like it's got it all and at others, completely lost doing the headless chicken act and struggling to gain a foothold in the match.

The forward line is the most mercurial. Salah is our most reliable scorer but I think it's fair to say we don't have a reliable performer over 90mins.

I’m flabbergasted at how highly rated Konate was. That final 30 was inept from him. Had they scored in that period you’d be able to go directly to the worst of him.

Mo and Gakpo were poor. Diaz looked like he had been kidnapped and replaced by his dad on the pitch.

Not making any changes to centre mid was bonkers. Endo and Jones should’ve been on for gravy and who else is partnering him on Sunday.

It wasn’t all gloom and doom. He may eat shit Taytos but he’s not a bad keeper. Well apart from his weak ass effort to put the ball out.

There were spells where we played really football. Probably from 15 minutes to half time.

Shouldn’t complain about the three points but we should’ve put the game to bed and used the subs better.
Woah woah woah.
Since when did you become an expert on Tayto?
You can go back to commentating on your Walkers and Golden Wonder and the like.

BTW, I though Gakpo was pretty good last night though he should have scored at least one goal.
Was still probably in my top three or thereabouts

Not really sure what more our defence could do right so far this season, so picking holes in it seems very glas half emptey kinda attitude.

Conceding 5 goals across all competitons by the end of October is insane.

Its not luck either as we have the best stats in terms of giving up big chances, and limiting the opposition. We’re just defending very well as a team.

Big test on Sunday though.

The most important issue with the VAR system is that the referee is not consistently instructed to consult the video review. To see the video replay of the situation while on the pitch. Instead, the referee is sometimes instructed to do that and sometimes not. And the reasons the referees are sometimes instructed to conduct a video review and sometimes instructed not to do it are hidden. And those decisions are made by individuals who are also not on the pitch and who are, therefore, also hidden from the viewing public. And those individuals probably have earphones in their ears so that it is still somebody else who is directing their actions by providing momentary and immediate instructions, interpretations and opinions straight into their ears.

This Nunez situation was I think not reviewed by the referee. If the referee was instructed to review this situation then I think he would have to give a penalty. But the referee was not instructed to do so. That is how the game of football is currently run. There are many critical on-field situations that can be determined by outside actors. This situation could have easily been a penalty. And it should've been a penalty. But it wasn't. And this situation wasn't a penalty because somebody refused to instruct the referee to make a video review. And because somebody has instead instructed the referee that the VAR review has been completed and that there is no need for him to do a video review.

That foul on Jota from the last league game is another good example of the same thing. That was a similar situation to the one that happened in the Arsenal game this weekend. Yet, in the Arsenal game the situation was reviewed by the referee and the referee changed the yellow card into red. In the Liverpool game, the referee was not given an opportunity to review the foul on Jota. Same situation, sometimes the referee is directed to review and sometimes he is not. And nobody knows the reason why. Hence you get different outcomes. That allows for much greater opportunities for individuals who are outside of the pitch to control game outcomes. Bias comes into that. As does open cheating.

I started Slow Horses season 4 yesterday and episode 4 finished just before kick-off.

I had to choose between watching the final two episodes or the match. I went with Slow Horses.

This is a pointless post.
It's ridiculously watchable isn't it

Yeah but come on ... watching Slow Horses (or ANY series/film) or Liverpool?

Tbh, I put the game on after episode 4, but my stream was a bit iffy and I didn't have the patience for that.

That, and the fact that it was two thirds of the way through the season and the tension was building nicely.

Ya we are shite!

There’s a brain-dads or two in him every game. There was an instance when he was shielding the ball, from outside the box for Kelleher to come and collect 😡Of course the goalkeeper ended up having to head the ball out and then scramble to try and keep out a curler.

That said, he does tend to win one-on-one duels a lot.

[Philipp Hinze] Xavi Simons has suffered a ligament injury in the left ankle. Surgery is a possibility but only after a careful assessment. Xavi is very unlikely to feature in another game in 2024.

Did we do this?

That’s too bad. Talented player.
