Big Andy

I'm just glad we didn't gift him back to Newcastle.

Hopefully he'll bang in a load of goals and add an extra few mil to his fee next summer.

It took him long enough but he seems to have sorted himself out so good luck to him.

Looks like Allardyce turned up to negotiations with a glass of water, some viagra, and vaseline.

Looks like Rodgers is going to get vivid flashbacks every time he hears the words "Big Sam".

Rogers handling of the whole AC affair has been amateurish. Are we really saying that AC is 'that' bad that Rogers couldn't have used him this season to the benefit of the team?

Unless we are getting a 15+ striker to replace AC I'll cry. Sad thing is every feker on the site new AC would go a few hours before the deadline on some shitty deal which we would call Aqualani MK II in years to come.

I remember in the thread where people were asked for a straight prediction on whether he'd stay or go, I said we'd have our valuation worn down and he'd end up leaving towards the end of the window, but I honestly never thought it'd be on loan with no committment to buy. It's a pretty pathetic state of affairs.

No, I think what we're saying is that if we play him that way, he still won't score many, and his value will diminish even further. This way, he gets to prove to the world that he's worth a sizable transfer fee, and we minimize the loss on our investment. Besides, I think we need to wait and see what happens in the rest of the transfer window before we draw any conclusions. It's likely that we needed to move him on to proceed with other deals.

As has been said, he was horribly devalued in Rodgers first ever press conference.

We'll see what comes tomorrow but I'm worried we've ended up with an even worse squad than we had last season. Even if we'd have just kept Kuyt. Someone who knows where the fucking net is.

There's a continuity to our shitty transfer dealings over the years that suggest that it's far more than just Rogers, but he added his own little cadenza to this particular one.

The initial purchase of Carroll created a fairly unwinnable situation.

What you talking about Peter ? Andy's gonna show the world what he's really about. Just watch the multi million pound offers roll in next summer

You cant be serious?! Our midfield is ten times better than last season.
Kuyt scored 2 league goals last season, Andy scored 4.

Bellers is a miss obvs, but when the window closes tomorrow our squad will be a lot stronger than last season. No doubt.

I could never really understand the rush to show Kuyt the door, either. Was it this modern obsession with the wage bill?

I think it's a fairly ruthless commitment to value for money. Largely in response to how much we've wasted in recent years.

Be honest, we all knew that we'd get a good bumming over any deal and as always our money men have obliged.

I see the logic of getting £1-2M and £4-5M of the wages but the whole affair from Kenny's mental episode in wanting him, Commoli's fekin stupidity in offering £35M to our owners warped logic which went something like 'Yeah we go a right shafting over the AC signing but we did bum Chelsea so all is good right? to finally Rogers making stupid statements throughout the last 3 months.

God! I'm still in a state of shock and it's over 12 months since we bought AC, Adam, Donging and Henderson for a cool 390 Billion.

I think they saw how their yank mates successfully changed Arsenal fans expectations and dreams from winning the league to getting top 4 and making the directors rich and are trying it on us.

Without getting into the top four! I really want to punch Tom Werner!

am i the only one who just doesn't really care if he stayed/went elsewhere? and that's nothing to do with my opinion of him as a footballer - i just couldn't give a fuck

I wish they could be shrewd so long as they're trying to be ruthless.

The likes of Assaidi and Yesil could yet turn out to be shrewd signings. Both cheap, and on significantly lower wages than our outgoing players. Borini could prove to be a useful pickup, too. I think too much is being made of the Carroll situation, simply because of how much we paid for him. After all, that was the mistake of the last management team. Rodgers doesn't see a use for him, so he's just trying to make the best of a bad situation. It may yet blow up in his face, but I think we have to give him the benefit of the doubt until it does.

Yep, as you touched on in your first sentence. Rodgers hasn't dealt with transfers of this nature before, with massive £35m players, he got thrown into the firing line, answering questions over it, knowing politically, we had to sell, he looked like a cunt, because how else do you do it first time? He fucked up, so what? He was left out to dry over it and that's the owners fault, no one else's, for them putting their trust in Kenny who in hindsight was out of it regarding transfers, and then hiring a young inexperienced manager to deal with the shit. How do you do it though? Should the owners have come out after sacking Kenny and said he wasted the money, all the players signed are shit and we're going to look to flog them to the highest bidder?

And just for the record, as per it's laughable that the Rafa fans are out in force picking the bits out of the Carroll deal that we know fuck all about yet. If that idiot hadn't thrown £20m at every Tom, Dick & Harry, we wouldn't be stuck in this pit that Rodgers is left crawling out of.
