Whilst I was shamelessly avoiding work today, I had a quicker browser through redcafe. I noticed in a thread they were talking about the potential hook up between Young and Hernandez. It's a very good point, Hernandez is fantastic at getting on the end of things, poaching goals, he's good in the air too. It got me thinking how it would compare to the potential of Downing and Carroll. Obviously Carroll is stronger in the air, but I don't see him as much of a poacher as Hernandez. There respective partners play to there strengths as well, I see Young as being better at getting down the line and playing the ball across the box, where Hernandez can tap it in, whereas I see Downing getting a lot more crosses on Carrolls head for him to do his thing.

Both of these combinations are going to work great for both us and united and will be key areas of our attacks. Which do you see working better though?

Obviously 16m+35m compared to 20m+6m, you'd expect more from our boys, and I think we'll see more from them, It'll be close though, I think these will be two of the best combinations in the league this season.

I think it will be different as I don't really see Young as the out and out winger that Downing is, both have different strengths, I think Downings delivery is better but Young is quicker and more direct. Regards Hernandez, he's quality, let's face it. What a great buy. I think the supply line between Downing and Carroll will be more apparent than the one between Young and Hernandez but Young fits perfectly into their system, he's versatile as an attacker and can play anywhere across the front three, maybe the Downing/Carroll link up is more predictable, it'll still be difficult to defend against though.

I was looking at youtube henderson vids today (yeah yeah I know) and henderson is no slouch in the crossing stakes. I think he surprise a lot of people this season.

I really hope so, i'm really not sure what to expect with Henderson, quick winger putting in lots of crosses, that would be fantastic in my eyes. A crossing threat from both sides will make us very hard to deal with.

the videos I saw, henderson plays with his head up and that counts for so much more than raw pace especially when you see the likes of walcott and lennon.

I'm not sure we'll even see Young played anywhere near as much as Downing. United have a wealth of riches when it comes to wingers and TBH I don't think they actually needed Young in the first place, it was a strange buy for them ..... as he doesn't have great stats for going past people (neither does Downing but he makes the little space he needs for his crossing much better than Young does) and United don't get a lot out of crossing into the box unless Berbatov is playing (and that is even less likely this season).
