Joey Barton has continued his extended spell in the spotlight by using his favourite medium of Twitter to variously defend himself, admit blame, open up conflict with fellow players and former Newcastle United stars and then play vigilante against crime.

Following the sending-off of Gervinho, where Arsenal's Ivorian debutant was dismissed for raising a hand to Barton, the Newcastle United midfielder was accused of making a meal of a raised hand. Barton claimed a punch, while team-mate Steven Taylor suggested an elbow but a slap was proved to be the case, following a flare-up following what Newcastle claimed was an attempt to win a penalty through simulation.

Post-match interviews saw both club's managers take different views of the incident while Taylor denied that he had seen the incident. It was left to Barton to state his case via social media, in response to a deluge of Tweets that no doubt reached his account.

"I went down easy, no doubt. Still, you can't raise your hands... What do I have to gain by standing and trading with him? NOWT," tweeted Barton. "Standing and defending myself has only got me in trouble before. What do you want me to do, hit him back? Or hope the ref keeps him on [the pitch]?

"If he doesn't dive then the incident doesn't happen. Maybe I shouldn't have gotten involved, but diving and trying to win a penalty is s***. Needs stamping out. I train all summer to have him cheat us out of a hard-earned point? It's not on. Diving should be a three-game ban. Respect the game.

"If there's contact, go down - but don't blatantly try to con the ref. Refs have it hard enough."

Then Jack Wilshere, another Twitter devotee, got involved. "I think @joey7barton was in the wrong today! He should not have got invovled and assaulted Gerviniho like that #justsaying," he offered. "Maybe Gerviniho should not have reacted like he did as two wrongs dont make a right but barton was unprofessional!."

Barton then responded with his view of an earlier incident in which Alex Song, already on a yellow card, was seen to stamp on him in an off-the-ball incident: "@JackWilshere Nah, what about Song? Did u miss that?"

Wilshere in turn said: "@joey7barton that is a form of assault my friend it should not happen on a football pitch!"

"@JackWilshere hardly assault??," concluded Barton before he then headed to watch BBC's Match of the Day. "Right off now to watch MOTD, its what sat nights are all about. Peace out people, lifes to short to get angry at football," though this was followed by another blast, this time at former boss Alan Shearer for his view of the Gervinho clash.

"Bad shirt, shoes and views from shearer again. Sort it out slaphead........" was the view from the be-mohawked tyro, who then woke up to a home invasion.

"5.26am Was awoken by a banging sound, burglar attempting to break in to neighbours house. Needless to say he was disturbed and apprehended," said Barton. "He was so subtle he attempted to put a massive log through the window in broad daylight. Police have him now 4th break in of the night #scum."

"What with the burglar and Arsenal game, its been an incident packed 24hrs," concluded Barton, still available on a free transfer to interested suitors, of which there have been few.

Knob.

I agree with his views on Alan Shearer but generally this just confirms my opinion that twitter is a medium entirely for the consumption of morons and no good can come of any footballer using it

Don't get the whole Barton being inteligent thing, even press are starting to say it. Compared to what?
Can't believe how much he gets away with still, he has not learn to use twitter to broadcast his inane rants, big deal.
A three star player from a scum family and nothing for brains yet, glad we didn't go anywhere near him this summer and hope we never do.

Can someone explain to me why Newcastle are letting him go for nothing, but yet felt he was good enough to play for them at the weekend?

Guess they are desperate, also can someone explain why he's available on a free yet why no one has signed him?

merse.

He was bang on for the most part anyway, and on Saturday. He might have gone down easily, but the ref and officials all missed Song's stamp, so I thought it was justifiable, like he said, what's he supposed to do? Stay on his feet and get fuck all? There was still contact, the point over Gervinho's dive is that there wasn't any.

Gervinho was wrong to go down but getting another player by the scruff of the neck is just idiotic for himself and his team, it just shows he's just a common thug and if he wasn't playing football he would be out looting 😉, and if a TV analyst disagrees with his actions he's ready to shout them down using twitter, at least he showed his true colours then rather than quoting some american writer.

I tell you what, if that was against us and Gerrard had picked him in that way and remonstrated with him about his dirty snidey cheating ways, we would not have complained.

This is all about people saying "Oh well its only Barton". So what, so when he breaks the rules, he gets punished. So the same has to go for Gervinho. He raised his hands he gets sent off. Barton may well deserve a slap but that doesn't give other players the right to dish it out and then think they can't or shouldn't be punished. Still virtually nothing from Wenger on Song's cowardly stamp I see?

No one seems to be caring about the 2 sly incidents from the two Arsenal players do they? Lets not gets obsessed with Barton's previous. And so what if he disagrees with Shearer? Shearer makes his opinion in front of millions on MOTD, so why can't Barton answer back via Twitter if he so desires?

Barton is ace. He man handled that big faced Ivorian for diving, so what? If he didn't dive, there wouldn't have been an incident. Song stamped on him and got away with it. If Barton as stamped on any other player, we'd all hear what a dirty cheating cunt he is. Say what you want but he gets punished when he transgresses. He doesn't profess to be anything other than what he is.

Wenger is a sanctimonious cunt and a blind one at that. Give as good as you get and man up!

Because Gerard's past behaviour isn't nothing as bad as Barton's. Because of his past, he will be judged differently and that's just the way.
On regards to his twitter comments, calling the a club legend a slap head is not the most eloquent reply and if a Gerard had called Hansen something similar for questioning him then I would be just as silly.
Anyway, let's see how Barton does rest of the season, he's 28 and for the amount of time rubbish he spends talking would think he has earnt the right to or at least even lifted a trophy ( I don't think he has anyway 😉

I agree, and it seems Arsene is not alone 😉

I don't see why he shouldn't have a pop at Shrearer and the journalists, if it's OK for them to be having a pop at Barton , why not.

I think our expectation levels are sometimes set a little too high . Barton is a bit of a Huyton bucko, and I don't think he prophetesses to be anything else.

regards

This is why I hate modern day footballers. If you're a hard man, behave like one. The way the bellend went down like he was shot after a slap was despicable.
I remember a few years back flicking through the channels and seeing a rugby match where Martin Johnson was playing. This big fuckoff prop forward punched him in the face after the whistle had blown. Johnson's reaction? He looks at the guy and smiles. Now that's a hard man!

He didn't dive though. It was a stonewall penalty.

As stonewall as Pires' against Portsmouth a few years back.

Hang on, there's a common denominator here...

Nothing like the Pires' penalty, it was a complete dive with zero contact. This was different, Tiote made clear contact with Gervinho and stopped him. Watch it again. 100% penalty.

Fact eh?

IMO Gervinho hung his leg and dragged it to make the contact. That's not a penalty.

Thought @GNev2 was very insightful before the game. Talks a lot of sense, albeit in a manc accent and with a dodgy goatee. Haha #refreshing

If they sign Nasri and Sneijder. This could be like cheating on Football Manager...............ha

Joey7Barton Joseph Barton
Keeping them all happy and giving them enough playing time is Mancini's only real issue. Strong GK, Def and now that Attacking presence.....

He is an unmitigated moron.

His justification for manhandling Gervinho was that professionals shouldn't go looking for penalties, even if there is the slightest contact. In his next breath he then admits going down easy when slapped to try and make sure Gervinho got sent off. Fuck knows why anyone would want to read his substandard "thoughts".

I guarantee his types with one finger and his tongue stuck out.

I dunno ... he seems to be that guy in high school you hated but in a way, respected. He's a prized cunt but I like his Twitter rantings.

Oh, and as Lech points out, credit to him with the petition
