[article=http://www.marca.com/2013/12/14/futbol/futbol_internacional/premier_league/1387015051.html]Iago Aspas is chomping at the bit and itching to prove himself at Liverpool – starting by scoring his first Premier League goal. Having shaken off a niggling injury and the customary teething period as he acclimatises to a new footballing culture, he remains convinced he has what it takes to win over Brendan Rodgers and be a hit on Merseyside.

"I knew I was coming to one of the biggest clubs in Europe to play alongside world-class players. I was always in the team at Celta and it was plain sailing. Here at Liverpool I have to earn my place, just like any other signing", Aspas muses.

Though his first performances in a Reds shirt didn't go according to plan, the 26-year-old believes there were mitigating circumstances. "I wasn't playing in my position, as a centre-forward", he notes, before elaborating: "As a deep-lying forward I have to play with my back to goal, up against stronger defenders. Contact is allowed here, which is one of the big differences compared to Spanish football. But I'm working in the gym every day and I've managed to bulk up, gaining almost four kilos of muscle".

Aspas has also found it tough going dislodging the sensational Luis Suárez and in-form Daniel Sturridge. "It's not easy breaking into a team with so many top-class players. I'm working hard every day to try to get more game time", he stressed.

The Spaniard's situation at Liverpool has placed several 'La Liga' clubs on red alert over a possible loan move, including Betis. However, the forward has no intention of packing it in just yet: "I want to make it at Liverpool. I'm sure the fans will see the best of me soon".[/article]

On the plus side he doesnt seem like the sort of player who will hide because hes lacking in confidence. He seems to be a spiky tenacious character, it hasnt gone well for him so far but he will keep trying

I liked what I saw in pre season.
Him stepping up in the second half of the season would be fantastic

He's right as well, we've never seen him in his position. It's really unlikely unless Suarez get's injured, but it is a bit arlarse to buy someone then stick them in a completely different position from where they had their most success.

I wonder if Rodgers would consider playing two upfront with him and Suarez? Makes sense we get the team used to playing that style so that its just a straight swap when Sturridge is back, plus it suits Aspas better than sticking him out wide.

From what Ive seen of him it wont work for him out wide, he doesnt have the skill or pace to beat full backs, his game is about getting into the box feeding off scraps and getting his shots away first time. He cant do that from a wide position. He either plays upfront or not at all

seriously , how many players are we going to sign and hear them say "i'm not playing in my best position" ? . On one hand it's an easy excuse for an under performing player . On the other , if it is true , do we not properly scout these lads and have a plan on where we want to play them and if they can adjust to that role ?

Shipping him out in january is just insane , surely he needs more time to prove him self otherwise what was the point in signing him . But if they do bomb him out , I want to see somebody hold their hand up and take responsibility for another poor signing . It won't happen of course .

[article=http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpools-iago-aspas-transfer-target-2940391#ixzz2nubl5YwU ]Swansea’s Michu has called on his club to sign Iago Aspas on loan in January.

Liverpool's Spanish forward has endured a tough baptism in the Premier League following his £7.2million summer move from Celta Vigo – he has yet to score for the Anfield giants and has made just seven appearances.

But should the 26-year-old, who has recently returned from a thigh injury, be eyeing a temporary exit from Anfield, old pal Michu believes the Swans would a good home for Aspas.

Michu said: “We (the Welsh club's Spanish players) are hoping he can come here on loan. It would be a pleasure to play with him. Iago has had injuries, but he has quality. He deserves to play in the Premier League.

“He has been unlucky. At Liverpool, they have Luis Suarez and (Daniel) Sturridge, who have scored a lot of goals. Suarez is, along with Diego Costa and others, one of the best strikers in Europe.”

Liverpool beat Michael Laudrup’s Welsh club to the signature of Aspas in June.[/article]

I've still a faint glimmer of hope for him, more than I have for Borini.
Give him a go in the FA cup, let him lead the line.
He's going to struggle though, even if he does start turning it on, he's got the best striker in the world at the moment, and Sturridge infront of him in the line. And we only play 1 striker, 2 at the most.

[article=http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/swans-seek-cover-after-michu-blow-29864501.html]Michael Laudrup admits he will need to dip into the January transfer market after confirming Michu is set to undergo ankle surgery, but admits securing a deal to bring in Iago Aspas on loan will be difficult.

Michu, who has scored 28 goals for the Swans since joining from Rayo Vallecano in the summer of 2012, has been hindered by ankle and knee issues throughout the current campaign.

The Spain international's frustrations have been clear to see and manager Laudrup revealed the player will need to undergo a procedure on a long-standing problem with his right ankle which is expected to keep him out for six weeks.

''It's not good news,'' said the Dane. ''Unfortunately it has been confirmed that he will need an operation.

''It can be done in the next week and he should be back playing in around a month and a half.''

The loss of Michu further dents Swansea's attacking resources with winger Nathan Dyer likely to be sidelined until February after suffering an ankle ligament injury in the recent draw at Norwich.

Laudrup admits the combination of the two injuries means he will look to bring in a forward during the January transfer window, probably on loan.

Among the players Laudrup has been linked with a move for is Liverpool striker Aspas, who he actively pursued last summer.

But Laudrup believes it may prove a difficult deal to pull off.

"He is an interesting player, he was on our list in the summer," he said.

"But he is at Liverpool and they have injuries too.

"Daniel Sturridge is out at the moment, so apart from Luis Suarez they don't have many forwards right now so I don't think that will happen right now.

"But we have 31 days to do things and there will be a big race as a lot of clubs need players, maybe in the same positions we are looking.

"So we will try to do our best and try not to talk about certain players because sometimes when we do that they end up going elsewhere."

One piece of good news for the Welsh club ahead of their Boxing Day trip to Chelsea, is that left-back Ben Davies has signed a one-year contract extension to commit himself to the Liberty Stadium outfit until 2017.

The 20-year-old has excelled since being thrust into the first-team when Neil Taylor broke his ankle in September 2012, and was an integral part of the squad which won the Capital One Cup and finished ninth in the Premier League.[/article]

This is a fair comment. You'd have to say Borini edges it and probably carries more of a threat. Both look fucking useless.

To be fair, one is playing for Sunderland at the moment, and the other hasn't been playing much at all. Hard to gauge quality with those qualifiers.

I think Aspas should be coming into matches ahead of Moses from now on though, to at least give him a chance.

He tried to run at the defense once, but lost the ball. I wouldn't judge him too harshly on this, he was trying to get in attacking positions inside the box, freeing Suarez to try to create something wherever the attack was, the ball just never reached him.

To be fair, I'd want more from an impact sub in the last 10 mins when we're 2-1 down in a crucial match.

I'm honestly not sure what Moses is meant to be good at. He's got no pace, can't beat a man, can't shoot, can't pass, can't head a ball, can't tackle, is lazy.

I'd much rather have kept Borini than signed Aspas. They're both a bit shit, but Borini has shown signs of being able to handle the Premier League and do well. One touch aside, Aspas has looked horrendous.

Aspas is so clueless a footballer on the pitch, I dont know what is wrong with him. I have no idea how he is going to contribute anything to us

Aspas reminds me of Danny Welbeck in the way he does that Bambi on ice routine, running around with his hands and legs everywhere not looking in control.

He's got something about him. His touch is decent, and he can find the ball in space. But it's as if he's overawed by the occasion of playing for us, or playing in a more physical league. The way he's going, he's not gonna get many opportunities to play his way into form.

Yeah, I don't think he's as bad a player as he's looked of late. I'm just not sure he's good enough to persevere with. It's a similar situation with Borini. I think if either were given an extended run in the team, they would prove that they're better than many think they are. But I still think they'd come up short. So I think we'd be better off cutting our losses and replacing them.

The thing that I find strange is that Brodge extolled the virtues of Aspas' attitude when he was being signed. He banged on about how he was a fighter on the pitch, chased everything, hated losing, ra ra ra. He made him sound like a diet-Suarez.

So I was expecting something along those lines.

He couldn't be more unlike that. He strolls around, I've never seen him sprint once, and everything passes him by without him looking like he gives a fuck. I don't mind when foreigners struggle to adapt, but when they look like they're struggling to care then that's a bigger issue.
