I think the deal with full backs is that managers are prepared to accept some degree of defensive inadequacy, if a player has a devastating impact when he goes forward. To me, the problem with Johnson at the moment is that his attacking game sometimes falls below what the manager is entitled to expect. He's a good player and a regular choice for England, but some games he seems to be in a sort of trance.

I've often seen him described in their forums the other way around - better going forward than defending. He's been playing at RB from what I gather, and they think he's probably a CB playing out of position.
If Derby get promoted, another full season loan to them next season wouldn't hurt.
I think you can tell a lot about a transfer target from the attitude of the fans at the club he currently plays for. They have spent longer watching the player than anybody else, including journalists.
If the fans aren't particularly bothered about the prospect of losing the player, it's a big warning sign.
