Sucks to Suck.

I'd like to see Kolo at RB for the rest of the season.

I know Lucas wasn't exactly the best midfield partner for him, but at some point you have to stop making excuses. His throwins aren't good enough, his decision making on the ball isn't good enough, his attitude isn't good enough. When we need to break, he slows the play down. When we need to retain possession, he tries a ridiculous Hollywood ball. His defensive positioning was terrible in that second half, we kept getting skinned by the overlap.

There was a point where Sterling lost the ball, and then SPRINTED the 40 yards back to stick on the man, while Johnson slowly jogged back, and generally did nothing positive.

I keep telling myself every week that he can't get much worse, but it's getting ridiculous.

He was absolutely awful today from start to finish.
Could you not have just replied to 100s of the other Johnson threads already open rather creating another one.
Btw, on the Kolo point, even though he played on the right early on, he's now another heart attack waiting to happen in defence so not thanks. No point cutting of ur nose to spite ur face, wait till summer and get another RB in but for now there is we really don't have any suitable proven options for RB.

Why are people so surprised at these type of performances he serves up? He's muck and has been for ages.

All season we've seen our players commit to shot blocking, leaving it all on the line. Even this match in the first half, Allen sold out to block a shot in the first half. Gerrard, Skrtel, etc all do it routinely for us, never shying away.

Remember that second goal Man City scored? Glen Johnson with a timid toe poke to put it past Mignolet. If Johnson commits to blocking that shot instead of half assing it, that ball 100% goes out for a corner.

It's a bit harsh analysis, I know, but I think it's something worth pointing out. Any other player we have commits to blocking that shot by going to ground.

I know its hard after that but we should just try and enjoy that win, thankfully Johnson, Mig and whoever else didn't cost us in the end.

Deep breaths!

He was shite today although has been very good recently.

That said Lucas was plain awful and gave him no help. Henderson offers far more support and so Johnson was exposed. That said, he was v poor on the ball and I nearly twatted the telly when he needlessly gave possession away at the end

I don't think anyone is surprised, or the number of threads that start because of it or the same people who like to remind how rubbish he is.
Reality is do we have any suitable options for this season that can realistically replace him with right now?

Don't think it his attitude to be fair. The last run of games Flanagan has been left with Coutinho in front of him, so teams have been trying to rape him all the time.

I think Norwich saw Lucas, saw Allen, and correctly decided that today was a day to rape Johnson. He was in shock more than anything, and just kind of lay there letting it happen.

Agreed, Lucas didn't do his job in midfield today, not sure what his mandate was today but was anonymous and Gerrard and Allen were left exposed.

Johnson was a chocolate teapot.

And we missed Henderson so badly that I am worried about our chances of beating Chelsea without him.

Watching Norwich's goals made me think thank fuck Drogba is no longer at Chelsea. I agree tho - I ink it will be v difficult for us with that midfield we had today. Also, at Palace too.

When?

Our current ethos is that when we have the ball, we move it quickly, and our players move quickly as well. Having Lucas today affected that as he's not able to hit passes as quickly as the likes of Henderson and Allen, and is not as quick in his movement as well. But at least he doesn't waste the ball that much.

Johnson, on the other hand, thinks he's some Berbatov with the "Keep calm and pass me the ball" shit, gets the ball, stands on it, slows the damn move down and then passes the ball to touch, to an opponent, or to nowhere in particular - i.e. fucking fuckuku land.

The last bit when we had a free kick near their corner flag was Johnson at his typical fucking most idiotic. So he goes to Sterling and says, "Here, pass me the ball, I'll take care of it and drag time out". Sterling passes it to him, and he fucking shields the fucking ball to fucking touch. So basically, he succeeded in consuming like... hmm, 5 seconds of game time, including ball retrieval.

And he wants a new contract, and finds the current contract situation "a distraction" when we're fighting for the title after eons. Is this nut for fucking fuckity real?

After returning from injury he had two or three excellent games. But did my head in today. Awful performance.

If I remember correctly, which I may not, he had one good game at LB, one poor game at LB, and was then moved to RB where he hasn't done much at all, bar one assist.

I don't think he's been "very good" in at least an year.

Johnson was awful. Lost the ball easily and was all over the place when they attacked us.

It's not like he's playing for a new contract or anything....

I thought Lucas in particular did fuck all for him. I can remember Skrtel having to come out to help Johnson because no midfielder did, fair enough a centre half having to help a fullback but there was Lucas was 10 yards away jogging. I think that was for their second goal. Then Johnson is clearly jittery and hesitant with the ball, where's Lucas? running away from him of course. On the other side of the pitch Flanagan has the ball and 2 or 3 are close enough to take a pass and want it.

Johnson was shite no doubt but it could've been minimised with some help. I think that was part of the Agger sub thinking to allow Skrtel to help him and still have 2 centre halves in the box. I like Lucas but I don't think he has the match fitness yet and those lazy fouls were driving me mental.

it's strange , during the week i was thinking how important johnson could be during the run in . A senior player who is usually confident under pressure and keeps possession . then he turns in performances like that . It really seems to be a lack of concentration that's the biggest problem .

I wonder though if he still has that injury that forced him to take a rest a few months ago . Anyway long term i'm not against looking to replace him but i wouldn't be so quick to drop him for the rest of the season . He hasn't been that bad recently and who else could come in ?

That one in the final minute of injury time when he mindlessly barged into their player drove me mental. Utterly idiotic. Granted, he's suffering for not being match fit but to do that was pure stupidity. Really hope he doesn't cost us the title.

It's like you didn't read the first post 😉

I thought Kolo did pretty well in his limited appearances at RB. I guess the issue is that Chelsea isn't the ideal point to change the team, but for all the wingers Chelsea have, you know Mourinho is going to go after Glenjo.

When I watch us play, it legitimately feels like 10 Liverpool players plus Glen Johnson. And considering he's probably the club's third highest earner already after Suarez and Gerrard, he shouldn't be getting "jittery and hesitant with the ball", or make anywhere near the number of mental errors that he does.

You know Kolo is going to give 110%, and be another coach on the pitch. That's a lot more than we're getting right now.

My biggest gripe with Johnson is his lack of closing down of the attacker for crosses. He habitually stays about 7 yards of the crosser and allows ample room for the attacker.

Sterling is already an infinitely better right back than Johnson (and I'm not advocating playing him there)

I don't see how much a player earns to has much relation to how he plays. I really don't care, even if he's the worst played payed in the team, it won't compensate for his rubbish performance.
Regarding Kolo, he may give 110% and beat his fists on the ground everytime he makes a mistake but really don't think he offers what we need at RB, he's a heart attack waiting to happen. We need to stay calm and right now Johnson is the best option at RB, I really don't want to try Kolo against or someone else who hasn't played RB for us at RB at this stage of the season. It's suicidal to try it now...

Lucas doesn't provide anywhere near the level of work rate Henderson and Allen provide both in attack and defense. Johnson had little help from him. But Johnson has been poo in general.

We need to get a very good full back and sod off Johnson. We also need to get another midfielder to relegate Lucas a cover for Gerrard only. I don't think he is suited to playing as a CM. He just does not have the required athletism.

That is all in addition to adding to our attack in the summer.

We will be in a great position to buy this summer, players will not need to be sold to what we are about and you build from a position of strength.
Nothing to stress about for now, good position to be in.
