Ha my daughter is there atm and says it's an absolute shithole and Sydney pisses all over it - just saying.

I have got to the stage where I absolutely hate watching it unless I am alone which doesn't help on the very rare occasions I can go

For a touristy visit Sydney is more attractive as it has more of a wow factor but to live it doesn't even come close.

fireworks are illegal here, but not in the north ... odd
They used to be illegal in the north but they started to let us have them whenever we showed that we could sort-of play nicely with each other.

I'd love to see what passes as a bonfire in England.

Eh? A Bonfire usually passes as a bonfire. I'm not even sure you can quantify a bonfire mate. A bloody big (but controlled) fire. They have plenty of those in England I assure you. Unless you are talking about the size of the bonfire. Are you? Because that opens up a whole Freudian line of questioning! 🥷

Bonfires in norn iron are a source of much pride.

They're not proper bonfires unless they at least threaten to burn down at least 3 houses.

Those bonfires are fucking boss.

One year we pushed out an old loose telegraph pole in the park we used to hang round in & managed to get in the ground deep enough to build a bonfire round it, & that remains the biggest (non organised) bonfire I've ever been to. Not one house for a fair few streets around didn't have at least a few fence panels missing by the end of that night. The fireys came at about half 10 & put it out saying it was too big. This despite the fact it was in the middle of a fucking big field.
