World XI Game

I feel fucking dirty for putting that cunt Ramos in there - partly because I couldn’t get Maradona in due to Sevilla.

Had to “make do” with Messi.

Best & Giggs can be swapped.

Replacing Ramos also means that Zidanne could replace Platini.

Pele, Zico or Falcao work for Socrates as well.

I nearly thought about putting Neville Southall in nets - with Best in for Giggs & Gerrard in for Souness.

Pat Jennings is another I probably could have used - which would have allowed me to have Hansen in for Ramos & Gerrard in for Souness.

Terrific midfield, but your front line lacks pace. And your RB is shit, and I don't know who the hell your keeper is.

Shearer in his early years was very quick. His Blackburn days in particular.

The keeper was my second favourite keeper from the Panini albums I had around 88-90. He was known as the Iron Curtain. I looked up his wiki to see who he played for and it said he was world goalkeeper of the year and one of the best in the 80's.

I always remember this one save he made where it he tipped a shot over the bar and looked like he could have cleared 2m on a high jump when doing it.
I found a YouTube clip of his best saves last night - it's not particularly good considering current goalkeeping standards. It's actually shite and he wore tracksuit bottoms as well.

You send Ross into tizzy.

In fairness I can think of no other player who could do what he could do.

Go out on the piss the night before World Cup qualifiers then spend the entire game moaning at his teammates.

Kahn
VVD Chiellini koulibaly
Modric Scholes
Recoba Messi Kdbruyne
Drogba. Mbappe

Unbeatable...

I’d add... very beatable as well - no fullbacks or wing backs - that team would get murdered on the flanks.

Here’s one with players still currently playing.

Pretty tasty.

GK - Oblak (Slovenia, Benfica, Atl Madrid)
RB - Wan-Bissaka (England, C Palace, Man Utd)
LB - Robertson (Scotland, Dundee Utd, Hull, Liverpool)
CB - Koulibaly (Senegal, Genk, Napoli)
CB - de Ligt (Holland, Ajax, Juventes)
MD - Kante (France, Caen, Leicester, Chelsea)
MD - Veratti (Italy, PSG)
MD - Modric (Croatia, Spurs, Real Madrid)
FW - Sane (Germany, Schalke, Man City)
FW - Lewandowski (Poland, Bor Dortmund, Bayern Munich)
FW - Messi (Argentina, Barcelona)

This was my go:

Oblak

Lauren
Maldini
Kompany
Ricardo Pereira

Keane
Gerrard
Zidane

Messi
Lewandowski
Drogba

GK - Shilton (England, Leicester, N Forrest, S’oton, Derby)
RB - Bergomi (Italy, Inter Milan)
LB - Lahm (Germany, Bayern Munich, Stuttgart)
CB - Ramos (Spain, Sevilla, Real Madrid)
CB - Kompany (Belgium, Anderlect, Hamburg, Man City)
MD - Souness (Scotland, Spurs, M’boro, Liverpool, Sampdoria, Rangers)
MD - Platini (France, Nancy, St Etienne, Juventes)
MD - Socrates (Brazil, Corinthians, Fiorintina, Flamenco, Santos)
FW - Giggs (Wales, Man Utd)
FW - Van Basten (Holland, Ajax, AC Milan)
FW - Messi (Argentina, Barcelona)

There are a few others I could have used, being an old cunt, because the likes of Best, Pele, Cruyf, Beckenbauer were still playing - but I’ve tried to use players I actually remember playing.

Older cunts really have an edge in this game... Especially since the best players of yesteryear were more likely to stay at one club.

Dasayev played before my time, but I've read some opinions that some of his awards had to do more with politics than his ability – no idea if true.
