Can we afford starting him until season's end? or do his 'excellent displays' (I think Rodgers is saying these things for the 'right' reasons) leave him in the line up?
I agree.Seasons over, so for sentiment and as a thank you to Gerrard, he should start them.
Call it a defeatist attitude, but we have no chance of fourth.
I agree.
Simply cos I really, really, don't want us to play in the Europa League next season.
I'd use this as an opportunity to bring some of the youngsters in. I wouldn't bother playing anyone who isn't going to feature for us next season. What's the point? Gerrard should play off the bench and should maybe start the last game to be brought off.
I can't help thinking a burden will be lifted when Steven leaves, not because of these stats but because his status presents a selection problem for the Manager.
I agree.

I makes it look like most of our bad results were all down to Gerrard. Sure, he hasn't exactly been setting the stage alight as of late, but the reasons for our poor performances this season goes much deeper than that. There are too many other elements that need to factored in as to what achieved a particular result.
I don't think that's what it's saying - it's saying as a team, we play better when he's not on the pitch (which has happened in other seasons too).
I haven't given up on fourth completely yet. With that in mind he should absolutely not be starting in matches.
1 more slip up from City and it's game on.
But that's still not necessarily the case, is it? For example we got a win away to Swansea without Gerrard but we played like shit. That's just one example. There are many other things that need to be factored in such as how well the opposition played etc.
I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you. I'm just saying that it's easy to throw stats like that about. But it doesn't always tell the full story.Ok - Gerrard complicates how Rodgers can pick a team. He's an average (at best) DM, and he doesn't add much in the upper third with movement. That means pushing players around to accommodate him and that has led to issues this year. Last year, 2 goalscorers masked the issue (though many complained about it)
We still have another season before this whole CL Money increase starts to show - those who qualify will get the money from the end of next season, but that doesnt change going into next season. For me that makes next season even more important, we have simply got to make the right moves in the market this summer and ensure that we are more than fighting. City are likely to make wholesale changes so that will present an opportunity for us to hit the ground running.
Even after that shitshow yesterday I am confident that we can take the form we have shown in the league since Christmas into next season.
@Rosco What are your thoughts on this being an example of the ewing theory?
Can is the new Baros ... gets his head down and can make some lovely runs, but fails to get his head up and make the right pass at the right time, so these runs usually ends up in lost possession and Can way out of position. That IS a problem.
Don't you mean one more slip from Gerrard and it curtains.I haven't given up on fourth completely yet. With that in mind he should absolutely not be starting in matches.
