Fair enough Macca. I was begging for him to bring Suso on yesterday, just to give us that bit more of a foot on the ball in the middle, everything was so rushed and panicked, although we did create chances, you never really felt that the players were in that sort of form and confidence to put the chances away.
When you look at games earlier in the season, particularly away at Everton and Chelsea, he made decisions at half time which gave us a foothold. The subs are just becoming predictable. Lucas can trip players up left right and centre, get completely overran and constantly give the ball away, while Johnson was having an absolute nightmare, yet it was predictable as ever - Henderson withdrawn when he was performing better than Lucas, and Downing thrown in to give us a bit more directness. That said, Downing had a few good chances and could have won it on another day. But while the bench isn't exactly littered with stars, the opportunity was there to give a rocket up the arse of a few players and throw on the likes of Shelvey or Suso.
All in all, we've known our main failings all season, a defense that's brittle with two fullbacks who aren't particular good or consistent enough and a midfield that just doesn't function well as a unit neither defensively nor offensively.
We need a few more players, but Rodgers needs to go back to the drawing board and realise that if something's not working on the pitch, it's doesn't necessarily mean it's his own failing, players have off days, players come up against opponents they don't particularly play well against (and some just aren't good enough) and systems flounder once in a while. We've got talented youth players on the fringe of things and while Rodgers may feel he's treading a thin line keeping more established stars on side, it's his own neck that will be on the line at the end of the day.
