Roy Hodgson admits he is frustrated and disappointed after Steven Gerrard sustained a hamstring injury on England duty this week - but the Liverpool manager believes it is time to draw a line under the episode.

Gerrard suffered a grade two hamstring tear during an 85-minute appearance in his country's 2-1 friendly defeat to France on Wednesday.

Asked for his thoughts on the injury and the subsequent fallout at his pre-match press conference, Hodgson said: "My thoughts on Steven Gerrard are that as Liverpool manager I'm frustrated and disappointed to lose such an important player for such a long period of time after a friendly game.

"Anything I say other than that I'm frustrated and even a little bit angry about it would be dishonest, but I know Steven is very anxious to put a tin lid on this matter.

"You (journalists) have had a couple of days now where you've been able to enjoy the headlines and the club versus country debate, but Steven, as a very important club player and very important player for his national team, is anxious that the tin lid is put on this.

"He's disappointed and sad too but he's going to do everything he can to get back to full fitness as quickly as possible.

"I don't want to discuss it anymore and I don't want an apology from anybody. I'm not prepared to add any fuel to the fire or add anything to the debate which has been raging.

"My main concern is with Liverpool Football Club, with the match tomorrow, and in particular with Steven Gerrard - and he's anxious that this matter is put behind him and everybody."

Incidentally Spearing is out injured as well

Wow, these quotes aren't embarrassing nor cringe-worthy

Well done Hodgey.

-sigh-

I predict a 2-1 win to West Ham.. Given the line up thats being touted about...

West Ham as shite as they are, are due a stroke of luck... so expect victory to West Ham, as they are playing us!!

Its going to be another Blackpool moment...

In fact I may even put a bet on it (like I did when we played Blackpool).. It may sound mad, but I'd happily take another humiliating defeat at home if it meant Hodge Podge was closer to the door...

Any ground would pose problems for the Hammers these days. It’s 24 away games since they won on their travels in the Premier League – on the first day of last season at Wolves.

To be fair to West Ham, they have drawn nine of those 24, and lost just 15 of them. Ahem. But now it’s Anfield, the one ground among the current Premier League clubs where they have never tasted a Premier League victory. Not one. In 15 attempts. Crikey.

To be fair to West Ham, they have drawn four of the 15, and lost just 11 of them. Ahem.

They would probably rather be playing somewhere in London. In 295 away games in the Premier League before this weekend (details below), West Ham have won 66, and of those 66 wins, 19 have come at London grounds: Fulham (five wins in seven), Chelsea (four in 15), Arsenal (four in 16), Tottenham (three in 15) and Wimbledon (three in seven).

Gadzooks, they have even won at Old Trafford! Twice.

But wins an Anfield? None. Nada. Zero. Zilch.

With whats available, thats a decent attacking minded team. Still, would have given Babel a chance.

It will be close, but we might nick it in the end.

With what we've got, it's not that bad a side, though I'd have preferred to have seen Shelvey.

Playing Kuyt, N'Gog and Torres is a fairly bold move and not one we would have seen much under Rafa.

Spearing out for ard 6 wks:

"Unfortunately right at the end of the training session, which was 5-a-side and not at all a competitive game, he turned his ankle and cracked a small bone just above the ankle in his fibia," said boss Roy Hodgson.

"That means he is going to be missing for six weeks. It is a terrible blow for Jay and us. He has been doing ever so well and getting closer and closer to a place in the first team.

"I was considering using him in this gane, possibly even starting him."
Is there a doctor on here that can explain how you break a small bone in the fibia?

Dunno if anyone has posted the team but here it is in full.

We will lose. We are up for the taking. Teams doesn´t respect us anymore.
Yup and to be fair, if it takes another mass losing run to get Hodgson out I really don't care.. our season is over anyway, ive stopped caring in that sense.

I just want him gone, he typifies everything that is wrong with the club at the moment.

Without Parker they're shitter than shit. With a shit manager.

So in many ways, they are much like us, except more shit.

In the words of ex Hammers boss, Alan Pardew.

We're going to absolutely rape them!

Poulsen is not the best player in the world but he's better than what we've seen so far. Maybe this is his game to get a bit of form back.

I'd have paired Raul with Shelvey at home to botton-of-the-table West Ham though.

Or as David Haye says: "This will be as one sided as a gang rape...."

Shelvey didn't play well last time out though. It's true that this could have been a good game for him to rebuild any damaged confidence he might be suffering from, but I can understand the decision not to play him today.

I think we'll beat them. If we had Stevie and played like we did against the Chavs we'd win by three or four. As it is, I don't see the margin being greater than the odd goal today.

any stream links?

Not yet, but I've been watching atdhe.net all day, so they should have the game.

4-4-2, I guess.
Well this looks to be a difficult one.
A midfield with Meireles, Poulsen and Kuyt, who's the creative spark?
He should have played Suso.

So home to the worst team in the league.

Who's confident? ???

Aparrently we haven't lost at home to West Ham since 1963.

Hammers Team:

Green, Jacobsen, Gabbidon, Upson, Ilunga, Piquionne, Noble, Kovac, Boa Morte, Obinna, Cole.

Subs: Stech, Reid, Tomkins, Barrera, McCarthy, Spector, Nouble.

Boa Morte has scored a fair few against us - or is it just my imagination?
