Wenger

Thank fuck they didn't get Klopp.

They haven't really been the same since losing Vieira and Campbell have they - and dare I say it - Kolo as well. They've been crying out for some steel (mental and physical) in the side for years, but it never gets addressed.

Even tippy tappy Barca in their prime had Puyol and Mascherano to toughen things up a bit.

To be fair to Wenger, he did create the most exciting team in in the premiership for the last 25 years though.

That 2002 - 2004 team was truly sensational to watch. The movement, pace and understanding of that front 4 was unreal. Useless in Europe mind.

But still - Wenger surely has to step down now rather than wait to be pushed.

I don't get it either. Our last season in the champions league annoyed the life out of me because we had no chance, it must be nice to qualify every season but what's the point?

Well, you could make that argument for most clubs who never get to win anything - what's the point?

I would defo keep.

The grass isnt always greener, we got rid of rafa and took us years to find a decent coach.

United have simialr issues.

Its amusing to watch his team perform though the season but he could still end up with the double...

I'd like them to get rid of him, then fail to find a suitable replacement, then get relegated.

As unlikely as relegation is, that would be my ideal scenario too.

It's weird, though. He's a good manager, but it's very easy to understand the frustration with what seems to be 50% of the support base. I know that unshakeable self-belief is a typical trait for successful managers - and people in general - but when does it veer into self-delusion/?

You could but that would ignore the fact that most clubs simply can't win things. It's well within the reach of Arsenal to actually win a trophy but they seem content to come within touching distance every year.

That's the issue for Arsenal fans, yeah. Good point.

I do remember only a couple of seasons ago Scum and arse fans were casting envious glances at Rodgers.

He was only ever going to join Barca or Real if he left Liverpool. Deluded clowns.

Well, quite. That or he would be tempted by the wads of cash available at City. I can remember losing Rodgers to City being a serious concern among some in those halcyon days of his Liverpool career.

I work with a Gooner that remains a fan of Wenger based on the argument that he's kept them in the top 4 whilst paying off the stadium.

I don't really have any strong feelings about Wenger one way or another but that's a fair argument and I don't think he gets enough credit for that. We have first hand experience of how easy it is to fall away from the top and struggle to get back in, as have Utd recently.

That being said, there are pretty valid question marks about whether he's capable of building a top class team again. They have got a pretty decent squad at the moment and a couple top class additions would make them strong title contenders... the problem is that nobody trusts Wenger to make those signings any more.

Who would they get that everyone would trust though?

The standard arsenal fan defence, totally invalidated by Leicester

They'd be mad to get rid of Wenger.
Their objectives are making money, getting in the Champs League and picking up the odd Cup along the way, pretty much like most other teams. And he delivers all that.
Their fans may hate that but I'm sure their owners don't.

I agree with most of the negative posts about Wenger but will definitely miss him when he finally steps down. An important character and presence in the league.

He probably wouldn't see it.
