christ , i have spent the last half hr torturing myself by watching villa-west ham . atrocious .

to think people have praised villa this year , just shows the obsession with the 'building a proper club, investing in youth" bollocks .

Yah - serves Fergie right for investing in youth in the early 90s and always giving his talented kids, be it from the reserves or purchases, a proper chance to shine. Idiots the lot of them.

... oh and everyone is spot on ... the Villa-WHU game is atrocious. Big Andy almost scored a few seconds ago though.

I am of course not against investing in youth or promoting young players to the first team , i realise how important it is . What i do think is bollocks is this current trend that any club who gives youth a chance deserves massive praise . Anybody can pack a team full of young players , if they're no good it means fuck all .

What has happened to Bent and Given at Villa? Surprised that they are not in the first 11 given their position.

'Current trend' ... Who's doing it? Villa? We've given youngsters a chance in various circumstances, some forced, some not. But it's been blended in the right way imo. That's how it was done in the 80s too when we dominated - youngsters (18-23) came in and played - and in the 90s, when we just threw in these world class 18 year olds (that hopefully, we're developing again!)

Carroll has been horrendously poor. God knows how we are going to get a fee for him.
