UEFA aren't doing us any favours. They simply wanna apply the rules. That we may stand to benefit is coincidental.
Exactly. And if by finishing sixth, we happen to place ourselves in a position to benefit, then, well done to us for getting there (not that we should or will be aiming just for that, of course).

With so many big games ahead and the top six all playing one another, we should be aiming higher.

All we can do is win as many of our remaining games and see where the chips may fall. 4th isn't out of reach if we look after our own results and a few others go our way.

This is football, anything is possible!

Oh dream on, you'll be saying that you can still win a final when you're 3-0 down at half time!!!

😉

Just like they did/didn't in 2006 eh?

Arguable either way, is that. On league position alone we wouldn't have qualified, but we would have by being the holders.
That is precisely my point JJ , the rule was changed that year as we were not going to qualify.

It was, but I suspect it would have been done for any team that had won it but failed to qualify the next year.

Fair point, and I recognise there can be more than one view on this, but mine is that doing it on league position is what best safeguards the quality of the current competitions. Birmingham would almost certainly find themselves majorly embarrassed if they did get anywhere near the latter stages anyway.
Like Fulham did?

Im pretty sure Uefa would muuuuch rather us be in their competition than Birmingham. In every way it would make sense for them to be strict with a Brum or Pompey.
But morally its a bit snide, and i hope they dont do it.

if man city win the fa cup and finish 4th, 6th place is good enough for europe, right?
Wrong. Stoke get it. They gotta come 5th.

Thats why Harry is not happy about the Stoke v City league match being put back until the week after the cup final

Well, they hadn't come off the back of a previous season in which they'd fallen away like Birmingham have this season, but good point all the same.

So ...... we need Spurs to beat City for fourth and then City to win the Cup.

Man U/Arse/Chel$ki - Group UCL
Spurs - qualifiers UCL
Citeh - Fa Cup Winners -> Euro League
Brum - League Cup Winners -> Euro League
Us - Highest in league without a place already -> Euro League.

Correct?

That may be correct Dee, but I'll be fucked if I'm gonna sit here and work out the variables required for us to sneak into the Europa fucking League.

Hah, yeah. Overtaking Spurs is still a possibility too although not very likely either.

Tottenham vs Arsenal (0p)
Tottenham vs West Brom (3p)
Chelsea vs Tottenham (0p)
Tottenham vs Blackpool (3p)
Man City vs Tottenham (0p)
Liverpool vs Tottenham (0p)
Tottenham vs Birmingham (3p)
Total 53+9 = 62p

Liverpool:
Liverpool vs Birmingham (3p)
Liverpool vs Newcastle (3p)
Fulham vs Liverpool (3p)
Liverpool vs Tottenham (3p)
A Villa vs Liverpool (1p)
Total 49+13=62p and we'll overtake them on goal difference 8)
