Trent, Salah and VVD

Owen doesn't really belong in that pic.
Well at least not with a Madrid badge. Should be the Scummy one.

And so the "dampener" narrative begins, from the Beeb:

Speaking about the news to BBC Radio Merseyside, Rudkin said: "It's very sad for Liverpool fans - it's put a bit of a dampener on the title.

"Not a very big dampener but it does have that feeling of last game of the season are we going to give Trent some sort of goodbye?

"The parade if we do win the league, does that have some sad emotion to it? Some bittersweet emotion about it if he's walking away with the Premier League trophy under his arms.

Like I said, especially sad when it's a local lad and a fan, but I don't blame him. I don't think it's reasonable to expect any player to stay at the club forever (or at least until we don't want him any more) just because he was born locally. And I suspect the deal with Madrid was that they weren't going to pay a market rate fee for him AND top wages. They may have told him he came on a free / negligible fee or not at all.

My personal belief is that the Club has known he was off to Real for a while. It was the club's choice to prioritise one more league season, and minimise the post Klopp disruption, over a paltry £100 million pounds.

If so, I don't blame them. Cause that's what I'd do. Now we've won a League title.

The way we (don't) spend money though, £100m isn't something I can see us passing up on that premise.

Im usually on board with this "fsg won't spend" narrative... But with Trent going, the contract mess with the other 2 (and ibou), and not backing the manager last year; I can see them thinking they need to back slot properly this summer to keep fans (mostly) on side.

Plus, we spent fuck all last year and nothing in January. I know the accounts took a hit, but there’ll be money available this window. FSG do spend when it becomes abundantly clear there’s no alternative—like the midfield overhaul. I think the contract situations will be the same; if players need replacing and there are pressing needs, like the number 9 role, they have to be addressed.

I’m not sure the decision-makers will see we’re quite at that point with LB yet, but let’s see. If the right target isn’t there at the right price, I can see them holding off. For the others, there’s just no option.

At least they have lived and breathed not being in the CL for a year recently. It might make us more proactive.

I’ll still wait until it’s 100 percent confirmed (we all were told Gerrard to Chelsea was done before he backtracked), but if it is, I truly hope he never plays for us again. Finish winning the League and get him gone if he doesn’t want to be here.

The title isn’t about Trent, so fuck that narrative. If we win we’ll celebrate like crazy and nobody will even be thinking of him.

There’s a very small part of me (1-2%) thinks that when we win the title, the emotion will overcome Trent and he’ll decide that winning things with us means more than playing golf with his “bestie” in Madrid and stay.

Also… there is one angle, albeit it’s a bit of a stretch, that this is Real trying to pressure Trent into a decision that he’s not made. You’ll note that the story came from “sources in Spain” which likely means that Real leaked the story.

You have to wonder why?

I think it’s fair to assume that Trent probably wanted to wait until after the season was done - or at least until we’d won whatever we’re going to win before making a decision.

I’m just not entirely sure what the point of this story coming out of Spain now is?

I'm not sure if I even want him to change his mind at this point. Just better to move on.

There's been nothing new.

People saying the Atlantic have confirmed it have obviously not read the actual article.

Well we could have sold him in the summer or 2024. We could have sold him this January. We didn't. Why? I can think of only two reasons:

(1) We believed against all reasonable expectations that we could change his mind; or

(2) We wanted to make the transition as smooth as possible, and chose not to write off Slot's first season.

It certainly wasn't a case of FSG wanting to flog him off and Trent saying no.

Why hasn't Trent come out and said that nothing is done yet?
He's leaving us in the dark for no reason.

He hasn't done any media duty as vice captain, so it won't start now. There is a reason for it as well I reckon. The plan was to leave on a free all along.

Well there are three very logical reasons for this:

(1) It is done in his mind, but he doesn't want to inflame the situation now.

(2) It is almost done, or likely done, and he doesn't want to give us false hope by saying it isnt.

(3) He can't talk cause Jude's cock is in his mouth.

Correct.
Correct.
🤣

Hendrick: 'Trent's brother stands to make an ungodly amount of money from his #LFC exit'“
His brother (Tyler) has been going around telling people for 18 months about Trent McManaman.”

I really hope that isnt true, but it wouldnt surprise me. His brother is a prick. A prick who will soon land 10-15 mill £ in agent fees.

(3) He wasn’t going to sign for anyone else and say goodbye to a big fat stinking wedge of cash of a signing on bonus when leaving on a free

We all knew he would be going when Real came knocking, my wish is we had sold him in the summer for £60-80m in hindsight. The positive is we save £10m a year as it currently stands.
