All this gerbil faced optimism is fucking ridiculous.
We won't finish fourth. We won't win 7 games. Spurs or City or Villa, the three very compotent teams ahead of us will do enough.
Stop being silly. It's only going to hurt more when you realise it.

Fourth place ? Based on what exactly ? Our startlingly consistent form all year ? We've been gubbins. We'll finish 7th. Rafa will leave.

Truth to be told it's not like Villa, Citeh and Spurs are setting the world alight is is?

Hasn't Villa now dropped 4 points at home in two consecutive matches against Wolves and the mighty Sunderland?

Citeh is all over the place really and Spurs - well - they are having by far the toughest run-in.

We are as a good a shout as anyone really to get 4th.

When I think about it, we are probably the best shout as we are indeed bound for some luck aren't we?

4th and Europa League victory and we'd at least have something to cheer after all.

BELIEVE MOTHAFUKKERS!

I can't even fathom why you think we will suddenly stop playing like cunts. We won't. Rafa has fucked this season up from start to finish.

Great results yesterday!

Villa have got the Chavs away this weekend.

Just got to hope and pray that Spurs and City continue to drop points!

Spurs have been excellent the past few weeks and have also been able to dig out results when not at their best this season which is something they haven't been able to do in the past. They also have a better squad than us so it doesnt bode well.

The only plus is that they have a pretty tough run in.

I don't think Spurs has got a better squad than ours and I definitely can't see them win more than four points out of their Chelsea, Arsenal, United and Citeh ties. Can you?

You are über pessimistic mate.

Nothing is set in stone but we're obviously still in with a shout as our rivals for fourth aren't exactly hitting the high road themselves. If Spurs beats United, Arsenal and the Chavs then fair enough I'll eat my words untill then I see no reason why not to at least believe we've got a decent chance?

Can you post the remaining fixtures in full for the four teams mate?

Looking at what's left, even with our horrific form this season, my gut says it is between us and Villa and it could very well come down to goal difference. Of course if we do something silly like drop points to Sunderland, West Ham, Burnley or Hull, then we are and truly fucked! We may be fucked already, but ya never fucking know with us.

To the wire....

IF we win the Birmingham game I reckon 4th is defo ours baring in mind we beat the likes of Sunderland and Burnely of course.

Kris, your assumption that spurs will only take 3 points from
Sunderland v Tottenham
Man Utd v Tottenham
Man City v Tottenham
Burnley v Tottenham
Tottenham v Arsenal
these 5 games is ludicrous. Same with Villa.
I can't believe how little logic and rationale is being used in assessing how many points we and others will accrue.
Anyone would think we barely lose a game and the others never win.

our peers have harder runs ins the question is will we capitalise on any slip ups? we haven't been able to put together a decent run all season.

Well, I had to put down a few upsets hadn't I otherwise I had to cope with angry replies like you..... It didn't work did it?

Anyways Spurs has drawed a lot of games this Season and lost at home to the likes of Stoke and Wolves. Perhaps they'll beat Burnley but then draw with the Chavs instead. Same same.

We need luck but it's not unrealistic at all. ACCEPT IT!

The sequence of their games will play a part. For example, they play at home to Arsenal 4 days after their FA Cup semi final whilst Arsenal won't have played for over a week (following their 2nd leg CL tie with Barca).

people keep asking for the evidence of any form that will see us finish strongly:

1. we had looked much better in the 2 games prior to the utd defeat: if we can continue that without suffering the loss of confidence we seemed to after losing at the emirates then we should be able to take on the majority of the teams left.

2. torres is now fit and scoring. massive difference. massive.

3. our home record is actually very good, i think we've won our last 7 games at anfield in the league, and 3 of our remaining 7 are at home against opposition who, based purely on FORM, we should definitely beat. but the away games! well, 2 of the 3 are against probably the worst teams in the league (on form) who are fairly likely to already be relegated when we play them (almost certain in burnley's case). so, based solely on what you'd rationally expect us to achieve, that's 5 wins out of 7. that leaves birmingham and chelsea where we need to overachieve, which i fully admit will be tough.

whether you like it or not, the form book and the fixture list says this is going right to the wire, and that we're right in there with a chance. where i don't agree with KHL is on spurs: they're not just going to collapse, no chance. they'll get 68 pts+, so to beat them i think we'll need that near-perfect run-in.

Great post, and on the money.

I'll have a pound on Everton finishing above us, they're a better team. Thank fuck they were shit for ages at the start of the season or they'd be at least 10 points above us now.

I've made the decision not to look at the league table at all anymore until we have one game left. I can't be bothered with all the what ifs etc
