Portuguese newspaper A Bola reports on Sunday that Liverpool have agreed personal terms with defender Tiago Llori and a deal with Sporting Lisbon is now close.

Liverpool appear to be wrapping up a lot of transfer business in the early part of the window for the likes of Kolo Toure, Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto and Simon Mignolet.

A Bola suggest Liverpool’s move for Llori could be completed any time this week after the Portuguse Under-21 defender agreed to sign for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Sporting Lisbon are now holding out for a five million euro fee, with Liverpool’s most recent offer recorded at four million euros.

The Portuguese side are unlikely to budge from their valuation of the 20-year-old defender who is contracted to Sporting Lisbon until 2015.

This guy looks like he could be top class in a year or two, really happy if this signing comes off

Hope to see a photo of him next to a middle aged man in a Paul Smith shirt signing a contract pretty soon

Liverpool’s interest in the Sporting Lisbon’s classy central defender Tiago Llori has hit a hitch which may severely hinder any attempts to sign him as a reinforcement for central defence.

Lisbon are currently unwilling to consider negotiating over more than 20 players who share the same representatives as their prized young forward Bruma – a talent linked to a number of Premier League clubs - because of problems in getting support in signing up the 18-year-old to a new contract.

Llori, who is a fast, tall defender with a big reputation in Portugal, is one of that group of players and the club’s general resistance to selling him explains why a figure of €20m (£16.9m) has been quoted – way beyond his realistic value. Liverpool do have an interest in the player and Sporting’s hand may be forced by their urgent need of money from the transfer market this summer. Sources in Portugal have suggested that Liverpool have offered €3.5m net (£2.9m) for the 20-year-old, who was born in London though who has played all of his youth football in Portugal, with the last seven years in Sporting’s youth ranks.

Chelsea is pursuing two of Sporting's most prized youngsters as part of Jose Mourinho's strategy to restructure the Premier League club's senior squad. In addition to its bid to sign teenage forward Bruma, Chelsea has begun working on a deal to bring Tiago Ilori to Stamford Bridge. Both are Portugal youth internationals.

Ilori would be used to strengthen Mourinho's options in central defense -- an area he has identified as a particular weakness. The 20-year-old Ilori would operate as a fourth-choice for the position, allowing the coach to gradually expose him to elite-level soccer in much the same way as he brought through Raphael Varane at Real Madrid in the Frenchman's first season in Spain.

Labelled 'The New Ronaldo' in his adopted homeland, Bruma is likely to see more immediate playing time, his speed and ability to beat opponents one-on-one is well suited to Mourinho's tactical plans. Sporting has rejected Chelsea's initial offer of €4 million for the Guinea-Bissau-born forward, and is understood to be looking for around four times that sum.

Bruma's performances for Portugal in the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup -- the teenager scored five times in four ties en route to the round of 16 -- may help Sporting instigate an auction. Madrid has been monitoring Bruma for several months and is understood to be considering a competing offer. Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas is another admirer of the forward, recently stating that “Bruma has the skills to be someone in European football.”

Both Bruma and Ilori's youth adds to their appeal for Chelsea, who will be able to register them in both its Champions and Premier League squads without using any of its non-homegrown player slots. The status of the pair's contracts at Sporting could also aid their acquisition.

The Lisbon club has exercised an unilateral option on Ilori's contract to extend it until 2015, however as the original deal was agreed before the defender turned 18 it may be deemed to transgress FIFA rules if challenged. Last month, Liverpool unsuccessfully offered €3.5M to sign Ilori, who was born in London and has an English father.

Bruma has just a year to run on his current deal, and Sporting's attempts to tie him to a new contract worth an annual €350,000 net had been blocked by the player's agent, Nir Zahavi. Bruma recently ended his relationship with Zahavi, stating that he intended to sign new terms to enable Sporting to make more money from his expected transfer. Zahavi continues to represent Ilori.

Now I've never seen him play so I can't say if he is any good, but this seems to be going down the same road as when the club decided a certain young Mr. Ronaldo was deemed not worth the money that was being asked.........penny wise, pound foolish

We don't really need another centre back unless we shift another one out. And there's no sign of anyone moving at the moment

Liverpool talked to Tiago Ilori's representatives in Lisboa yesterday, and they're lining up a €3,5m bid for the youngster

The ECHO understands Liverpool have also renewed their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon centre-back Tiago Ilori.

Rodgers was keen to wrap up a deal back in June but talks between the clubs broke down.

The Reds had a bid of around £3million rejected with Sporting demanding more than double that amount.

However, Ilori’s refusal to pen a new contract in Portugal has given Liverpool hope that a compromise fee can now be agreed for the 20-year-old.

The Reds were represented at Sporting’s game against Arouca yesterday and further discussions were held with the young defender’s representatives.

Three and half months to ready a bid.

Fucking Pam Ayres could do better than our Ian

It took three and a half months to ready the bid
For Tiago Ilori, the Portugese kid
Nobody's sure why it took quite so long
But my namesake Ian didn't want to be wrong
He weren't quite sure how you spelt the kid's name
Cos the I and the l looked just the same
So he tried to be clever, and be all "high tech"
And went on the net, so that he could check
But he got a bit lost and distracted you see
Cos there's all kinds of filth and debauchery
But after he'd done fiddling with his knob
He remembered he's supposed to finish the job
So he wrote down the name and sent a quick fax
And then sat down and thought "time to relax"
And he reclined and relaxed in his new Paul Smith shirt
Unaware all the Scousers think he's a blert
