Torres pleased with Hodgson

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has revealed he is pleased with the appointment of Roy Hodgson.

Former Fulham manager Hodgson was unveiled as the new boss at Anfield last week, following the departure of Rafa Benitez at the end of the season.

Liverpool had a disappointing campaign last term and they slumped to a seventh-placed finish in the Premier League as well as exiting the UEFA Champions League at the group stage.

Hodgson faces a battle to keep Torres and captain Steven Gerrard at the club, as the pair have been strongly linked with moves away.

Torres, who is currently preparing for Spain's World Cup semi-final with Germany, would not discuss his future, but was pleased at the appointment of the experienced tactician.

He said: "I was happy he (Hodgson) got the job. I haven't had a chat with him yet but I will talk with him soon and we will see his ideas about the future.

"For now, my future is here. South Africa and the World Cup is too important to think about things after that.

"I have a very important week still here and after that I will have time to talk with him and talk about my future.

"He did really well at Fulham and I am sure he can do better for Liverpool. He is a very good manager. He showed that in the past and in the last season with Fulham.

"Hopefully he will be the right man to give Liverpool the opportunity to be strong again."

But Fernando don't you realise, Roy is going to stand aside and let Broughton sell you to pay off the debt even though he publicly said he wouldn't.

Wasn't part of the reason Abramovich bought Chelsea was because at the time the Russians were cracking down on some of their tycoons?
So he bought a high profile club and bought him self a majorhood in some small town somewhere, in hope it would make it harder to come after him.

It's sounds like Torres still needs convincing.

I think we all do.

Pretty much, yes (it was the governorship of Siberia that he got himself), but he's not going to be satisfied with that for ever. He's already told Chelsea they're going to have to cover their costs. They'll have to make money to do that if nothing else.

Most people recognise that Roy Hodgson is no world beater as a manager.
IMO he has been brought in as someone with lots of experience to steady the ship for the next couple of years, and this may sound shit and defeatist etc but LFC needs that right now with the wranglings and political games from all angles and the terrible season we had last time round.
His main aim will be to get the team to perform to their ability in the league, again for me that doesnt mean to win the league or even make some kind of sustained challenge for the title, but just to get us into the top four and champions League football season after that.

There won't be some five year plan to sign exciting players who will get bums on seats etc, it will be make sure the players and team perform on a weekly basis and are not distracted by the inevitable talk of takeovers and stadiums and blaa blaa.

I don't want him as manager, but then I don't want LFC to be in this shitty horrible situation they find themselves in.

We don't really have a choice but to give him a chance, I hope he is successful in his task but people need to be realistic about what his task actually is. No point coming on here giving it the big one 'we are LFC and deserve to be winners etc' cos last season we were bloody terrible, and no point asking if Roy can take us to second and champions league finals, cos it was pretty clear that Rafa could not do that again.

No it doesn't. That's utter bollocks.

It's akin to suggesting that people who were against the war were therefore pro-terrorism.

I.e complete fucking nonsense that only an idiot would try and put forward.

Just because people do not agree with the SoS methodology, it does not then mean they are by default in favour of the owners. To try and suggest as such is not only divisive, it's also incredibly narrow-minded.

Are you trying to play Devil's Advocate, or just being stoopid?

Woy Hodgson is a fucking mediocre football manager

This FACT is borne out by his CV

He's won nothing of any import in three and a half decades of trying

Spin that how you want, the FACTS are there to see for everyone

Still, I'm sure I won't have to wait *too* long to see the tide turn against Woy, because this season is going to be a fucking car-crash

And no, I didn't think last season was any less of a car-crash, but I said that was going to happen aswell.

That does not mean that Woy is a good choice
I didn't want Hodgson either, because I was paranoid about Broughton, but even then I'd prefer to give him a go than have another season under Rafa.

He's almost universally liked by players who've worked under him, which is a major plus considering that it's clear that Benitez falls out with everyone, he does seem to get the best out of his players, unlike Benitez who seems to make some reasonable players into dreadful ones, and he's never managed a side that would challenge for the CL title before so it's not possible to be sure that he can't do it.

And the fact that he seems to want to play a style of football that is in keeping with the old tradition of the club is a major plus for me because Benitez's football made me want to eat my eyes in the end

Ah yes, Woy's infamous 'fabulous brand of football'
The board was selecting a manager who would only come in given a shit set of circumstances, low money to spend, and no massive contract, as you are aware.

Who do you think they should have picked, who would come, given those circumstances? Or do you think they should have persisted with Rafa?

He hasn't told me anything for weeks, sorry.
Why don't you ask him if it's likely that Broughton is going to fuck us, or if he's probably trying to do the things he says he is?

Given the choice between Benitez and Woy, I (and most Liverpool fans) would have gone with Benitez

What is the point when it was clear that it was over?

It's obvious that Benitez is the better manager, but he has shown absolutely nothing over the last two seasons to suggest he can do well in the transfer market without a significant amount of money, in fact the opposite, and he's shown absolutely nothing last season to suggest he can turn the team around.

Benitez on the trajectory he was on, or Hodgson, it's not a choice that brightens my day, but it's hardly the absurdity you seem to make it out to be.

When I posted two months ago that we would be replacing Benitez with Woy, in the 'countdown to armageddon' thread, the universal reaction was a mixture of horror, disbelief and depression: *nobody* wanted Woy

Now, anyone who isn't postive, or mistrusts the motivation for this appointment is a loony S0S member

Typical, really, for mindless sheep, or cretins who rely on post-rationalised safety nets in order to avoid the obvious truth
I heartily agree. He (or she) who feels it knows it, I guess.
Fuckin el. I've just noticed this. What a pair of pretentious self-important know-it-all told-you-so word-in-mouth-planting tosspots you are. I wish you'd both heartily fuck off. Honestly.

I would rather Rebel23 or Steven Hawkins manage our team than Rafa. Sorry Rafa but it is true. So Woy is not too much of a disappointment to me.

*smiles through the frown*

Whatever happens over the next few weeks, I believe Roy will do a much better job in keeping us at the top level than most people here are expecting. 8)

If Torres, Gerrard and Mascherano are not leaving this summer, I don't think anyone will do worse than last season, even Rafa himself.

Is it possible to "heartily fuck off"?

So vewy, vewy angwy Sunny.

And does "tosspot" count as personal abuse? Ban yourself and take a well-earned breather.

You should really go to Drinkies and say that to Sunny's face.

Or his chest, rather.
