For the record KK, I think you'll find I was sticking up for Rafa, I'm not blind to his achievements, but to deny he was clearly hard to get along with & pissed players off is a myopic as saying he was a shut manager cos he had a shit last season.

You think he was hired to sell Torres?!

Really?? Are you normally that paranoid or do you just save it for applying to mental theories about LFC?

If Torres isn't sold you'll get your eye wiped big time.

He'll claim that Rafa sent him a text persuading him to stay.

I don't deny that. All managers piss off players, but it's not a popularity contest. Players tend to get pissed off when they are not in the team or if the team are doing badly. Shankly pissed off a fair amount of players too. I haven't seen any quote of any player pissed off other than maybe, Riera mind. I see it as just media spin to justify getting rid of a thorn in the Board's side. Ironically enough he did that for the fans. Hodgson was hired specifically not to do that. He could not have been hired for results.

In any case, I look forward to a Hodgson team beating Barca at the Nou Camp or Real at the Bernabeu and pushing Man U or whoever for the title. Or not.

I think he was hired to not kick up a fuss when players are sold without his approval, yea. I think the Board will find it hard not to sell if Abromovich offers the £70m that is being bandied around. I sincerely hope I'm wrong and have my 'eye wiped big time', whatever that means. Hodgson has already laid the ground for the sale with his 'nail the feet to the floor' comment in my opinion, again, I hope I'm wrong.

Given the choice between Benitez and Woy, I (and most Liverpool fans) would have gone with Benitez
Errr, Roy is a much better choice than benitez.. and i cant say i agree with you when you say MOST liverpool fans would have kept benitez, because he was very much hated towards the end 🙂
Nobody cares what you think about anything, you massive zlatan
Dont go saying MOST liverpool fans would prefer benitez because in reality your deluded if you think that. Benitez was a fucking tosser
Benitez topped a poll on here, by some distance. Assuming we're fans, most preferred Benitez.

Doesn't matter now anyway, does it? Mr Hodgson's currently in the job.
Sure benitez topped a poll but he also had 6 years to proove himself to us. Roy just started, so give him 6 years to show what he has then we will compare

I don't think anyone is comparing the two managers records & saying hodgson is better, but the fact is something had gone horribly wrong by last season & rafa had lost the players. They looked disinterested at best, pissed off at worse & his decisions were getting more & more bizarre yet ironically predictable.

Rafa's team won the Champions League in his FIRST year. That's proof enough for me. Let's see what Hodgson wins this year.

Roy has to play with Rafa's team.

That's unfair on Roy.

I wouldn't read too much into paper talk. I'm almost positive Roy hasn't been brought in to sell Torres, but yeah, I'd be extremely surprised if a bid of 70m is turned down. There's very few, if any, clubs that would turn down that offer for any player.

FFF, Rafa wouldn't have sanctioned the sale. He had the contractual power to do so, that's why he was paid off. The proceeds wont be given to the manager not all of it anyway.
It will be hard for Roy to do that this year since we came 7th last year and didn't qualify for the chance to play them.

Well if they gave him that contractual power they're fucking daft, I'd be surprised if any managers hav that power. Rightly or wrongly they own the club & a player is an asset, so if hey wanna sell they can do.

Id be amazed if even half the money from sales goes to buying players, but that's a given, there's interest payment the yanks need to make unfortunately, until that changes we won't be spending big money no matter who we let go.

Yesterday someone suggested that the reason we were shit last year was because the players were depressed that no significant investment was made in the team after we finished 2nd. Not because Rafa perfomed poorly.

Today someone is suggesting that the reason Rafa was sacked was because he'd have prevented the 70 million Torres transfer (which hasnt happened yet) from taking place. Not because Rafa performed poorly.

I suspect if Germany lose tonight, the blame will lie with Paul's tentacles.

Next year, or any other year, when 'Good Ol' Roy' gets us back in the Champions League. I wonder if he can replicate his Europa Cup run with us in the meantime or if it was as I suspect, a 'fluke'. For what it's worth I hope he does, I don't want to come across as I don't wish him well or want us to perform badly as it's not the case. I Want us to win everything that we compete for regardless of who the manager is.

The difference being, of course, that Roy won't have the best part of a quarter of a billion pounds (gross) to spend during his time here. Which might *just* be a mitigating factor.

Yes, course there is, and all likelihood is they'd have done marginally better. How can you be sure though? Kopking seems to assume that based on the past achievements of a manager, it automatically makes his future just as good.
You answered your own question. When Torres is sold and Hodgson smiles, doesn't kick up a fuss and puts a nice brave face on it, I hope you'll be happy. It's ok 'cos Rafa was a 'twat', right?

You cant honestly believe that?!

There's talk about Stevie going every single summer. Even when he's just signed a contract extension there's paper talk of it.

In fact, before Rafa left there was speculation Torres was off, so it's obvious that would have increased.

I guess we'll never know. I would say however that there was some attempted talk last year that Rafa nipped in the bud straight away, and the figure mentioned was £100m.

Also, by that theory, why has there been so much speculation about Rooney going to Real?

Fergie hasnt left, there's been no rift in the papers, no major problems, yet there's still been unfounded paper speculation & bollocks.

You get over almost every single player every summer.

If benitez was here we'd still have the Torres rumours and certainly the Gerrard rumours. If we had been in the CL that would be another matter of course. And who's fault is that?

Good point, I suppose I'd feel better with a Manager that would issue a 'hands off' warning or had the power or inclination to do that. The Torres speculation is fever pitch in comparison to the Rooney thing and it seems a helluva lot more likely.
