6.8M transfer two summers ago?

What the hell has happened to him? No sign on the official.... not been in pre season from what I can see?

He's on loan again isn't he?

I'm tempted to go back and look at the old threads on him

I thought we sold him to depor?

Edit

Nope, loan

Well ....

Him and aspas were very astute signings when we bought them, reported ballague. The fucking cunt.

Yeah, there's a lot of silly looking people in the original thread.

I'll spare them the shame. Even though in the thread I said I'd quote the thread in future to remind people of how stupid they were.

Featured in Deportivo's 0-0 draw against Swansea a couple of days ago.

Yeah I called you out at the time IIRC. But I do remember asking you to give him a chance before we deem it a failure. It has indeed been a failure. What an odd signing.

Yeah, I thought he would be mucher better than what he turned out to be aswell. No need to hide even if some of us thought he could be a good signing at the time.
In his defence, and ours, he was given 9 games in the league and that was it. Then bombed out on loan as if we just wanted rid.
So he hasn't exactly been given a fair chance.
But 14 mill for him and Aspas could have been spent on a first team player that could actually have made a difference.
Shocking piece of transfer business and with that approach just yet another were there wasn't a plan behind it at all.

Good call by those who called it. Ross and Sheikh and probably a few others.

I took a proper beating from a fair few posters. Sheik was the only other one willing to see the transfer as it was

To be fair it is most probably the case that I saw it, and then you both followed suit after.

No one really knew how the transfer would turn out. It was guesswork on both sides. The majority hoped it would be successful so tried to support. I was in that camp and I'll usually give a signing a chance to prove his worth before I write them off. Alberto hadn't kicked a ball for us so we only had hope and expectation at the time. He's been a big fat dud which is a shame for us.

He'll be back, along with Aquillani to form the perfect behind the big front man duo.

Mark my words.

Ha, I checked the thread to see if the 'abuse' you got. Found these posts from myself.

I'm pretty sure we all think that 7 million was a substantial wedge of money for an unproven player. No one is saying we got a bargain. No one is saying he is worth the money. We don't know anything about the player bar a few clips and a few stats. We honestly cannot judge him yet. We have to presume that the scout/manager thinks the juice is worth the squeeze and this guy has the potential to be a very good player for us.
Do I think he's worth 7million right now? No idea. Probably not, but that's guesswork on my part.

Of course I could wade in and lambast the signing and attack the player from the off. That way, if he fails I can claim to have been right all along and bask in the glory of being correct. That is a not a win-win situation for me or the club IMO. Ross, you are turning into Brendan, and I don't mean Rogers. 😉

Then this one...

So should we all just turn on him now Ross?
I couldn't be arsed arguing against people calling him a waste of money when I really hope he isn't. It isn't a position I want to make right now.
I don't know how you have the motivation.

On a side note, we should have singed Ericksen instead of Alberto. He's a very good player. Poor KHL was hounded for advocating us signing him. I had his back. Us OOT gotta stick together.

And I told you why that argument was stupid

In all honesty, if you fall on the side of a transfer of a young player to be a failure, the odds are stacked in your favour.

The genius is picking the success stories.

I'm aware of that, but so are the brains that said he was the next Coutinho or those that compared him to Xavi, Messi and Iniesta

Actually I think it needs to be qualified - the transfer of a player with Alberto's profile was always likely to be a failure.

That's even long before you judge him as a player or try to place any faith in our scouting.

I think a lot of people struggle to attack a signing early doors as they want to give the new recruit a chance. I know I do. Some posters are even chastised for this outlook and are accused of being overly positive. I didn't want Benteke initially for example. However, I'm not going to waste my time arguing against the signing of him or debating those who are pro his signing. I can't see what I can gain from that. Future bragging rights? Nah. Not interested.
I personally would struggle to find the motivation to be so negative on a new recruit. I might find myself in a position where I subconsciously want a player to fail so I can be proved right. I don't want that. There is a lot of people on here who were against us signing Lallana or Markovic for example and that initial opinion seems to motivate their current and continued 'hate' of the player in question.

I only remember KHL and me wanting Eriksen. Won't be doing a told you so thread about it like.
