The January transfer window

He has a release clause. Quiffer.

We triggered the last one - he then signed a new contract and stated clearly he was committed to the club.

They're now joint top of La Liga and through the group stages of the Champions League. We can trigger the new clause and he'd still likely wish to stay on.

Jermaine Defoe's apparently going to MLS on a 4 year deal for £90,000 a week, with Spurs to collect a fee of around £6m for a player who has 18 months to run on his contract.

That's actually a great deal for all three parties.

Oh, there's no way Madrid are selling Moratta. I'm with ILD - he reminds me a lot of Torres with the way he runs and, particularly, the way he takes players on. Madrid would be mentally unstable to get rid but if it's possible then we should certainly enable that instability.

Why wouldn't they? They have Jese - and they don't really need him (hence being mostly on the bench). If they can get 10-12 million - why not sell?

Do they need that 10-12m? Desperate times for football if Madrid and the banks of Spain are in need of 10m..

Morata - sign sign sign! It would mean Studge being a bench warmer I fear (unless we had an epic trio of Morata, Sturdge and Suarez up top) but he is someone I think will break into the bracket of unstoppable European strikers in the next 2-3 years.

They don't need it - but it's money that they can re-invest as let's be honest ... they don't need more than one striker when they have Bale and Ronaldo whizzing around ... They'll go after a big striker (hopefully not SUarez) in the summer ... I think they'd sell for the right fee.

[article]Maxime Gonalons’ agent has indicated that the player had reached agreement with Napoli, but now won’t force a move from Lyon.

The defensive midfielder was seen as just awaiting approval this week from his Ligue 1 employers to complete a transfer out to the Stadio San Paolo.

However, in seeing Lyon announce their rejection of Napoli’s offer, the player will be content to stay, according to his agent.

“I was approached by Napoli last summer, they had offered €9m for Maxime, they absolutely wanted the player, who had affected Benitez since scoring for Lyon against Liverpool in the Champions League,” began Fredric Guerra to Rtl.fr.

“The offer climbed to €15m and we found it very interesting. We agreed to the move and Maxime was happy to move to the Azzurri, he liked the project and everything was alright.

“The player would have been going to an ambitious team whilst also improving his salary.

“Now [after the move’s collapse] there will be no tug-of-war with Lyon, Maxime knows the situation of the team and the club in which he grew up.”[/article]

Barnsley have signed Liverpool full-back Ryan McLaughlin on a 28-day loan deal.
The 19-year-old Northern Ireland Under-21 international is yet to make his debut for the Premier League side.
He told Barnsley's website: "While I'm here I want to be playing as much football as I can and do well for the team."
McLaughlin could make his debut for the Championship strugglers in Saturday's game at Charlton.

Be interesting to see how that goes

I don't think we have any money to spend

I would say that's close to the truth, but more that we're outperforming where we expected to be, so the owners can't see a need to invest more, besides the odd young player, and maybe a couple of million on a full back.

We lodged a £23m bid for Costa and never reinvested it, its safe to assume that some money is there if needed. I don't think we'll spend much over £10m if anything though.

Yeh, I keep forgetting Sakho cost £18m. I still think we'll have a little amount to invest.

I'm just trying to reverse jinx us really!

My recollection is that the owners have put around 45m into the club in the last three seasons - putting us on the verge of breaking the FFP rules.

So if that's right spending to help qualify for the CL will disqualify us from it.

Linked with Cheikhou Kouyate alongside Arsenal
[article=http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/transfer-news-arsenal-and-liverpool-set-to-commence-battle-over-anderlechts-cheikhou-kouyate-9048720.html]Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool are set to go head-to-head over a deal for Anderlecht's defender Cheikhou Kouyate after the player's agent revealed talks are progressing well.

The Daily Star report that both sides have scouted the 24-year-old for the last two months and plan to make a bid for Kouyate this month.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger's interest dates back to the 2012 London Olympic Games where Kouyate impressed for the Senegal national side. He was refused a work permit, however, and the deal was cancelled.

The centre-back has since been granted a Belgian passport, through playing for Anderlecht, and is set to talk with his suitors in the coming days.

With Liverpool's attentions being elsewhere for the time being, Wenger is the favourite to finalise a deal.

Saffet Balkan, Kouyate's agent said: "I have been in talks with representatives from Liverpool and Arsenal over Cheikhou Kouyate.

"Arsenal are very interested in Kouyate. It’s very likely that he’ll be joining a Premier League club soon."[/article]

I remember mentioning him over the summer window, but it's strange to see us being linked with a CB.

Liverpool are looking to reignite their interest in Dinamo Kiev winger Andriy Yarmolenko.
The 24-year-old figured prominently for Ukraine against England in their World Cup qualifiers and is rated at £15m.
Yarmolenko has scored eight goals in 16 appearances in the league for Kiev this season, and has 14 goals in 38 caps for Ukraine.
Liverpool are continuing negotiations over Basle's Mohamed Salah but are weighing up alternatives as the Swiss drive up the price.
Salah has been grabbing headlines with Swiss side Basle for the past 12 months and his performances in the Champions League against Chelsea, in particular, this season have made him one of the hottest properties of the January window.

Mirror: Liverpool eye Morata loan after being informed it will cost £1.7m to take him to Anfield for 6 months

Just wondering - the Ukraine league ended in December and will only resume in March. How long will it take for Yarmolenko to be match fit and ready?

Jese is more of a winger, no? Like I said, they can probably play there, but Benzema is their only other out and out striker.
