The Italian stallion

I don't really know anything about the guy but the first thought that came to mind was that he's found himself in a situation that's almost too good to be true and he doesn't want / is scared to fuck it up.

That might explain why he appears to be reluctant to rotate and sticks to that small trusted group of players that have performed for him thus far.

But it's equally plausible that he just really doesn't rate the likes of Endo et al and Chiesa is useless and needs shipping back to Italy pronto.

I guess we'll (I'll) learn more about him as time passes.
Yes that was exactly the point I was making in the other thread when I looked into how much they've played. Just like you alluded to, Slot has a core of players he trusts.
The rest, like Endo, get about 5 min in the games that mean something, thats unless injuries force his hand.

It doesn't suggest he's doing that well in training.

The thing is we aren't sewing games up early. If we have control in a game and finish then chiesa should be saving Salah 20 mins every game and playing domestic cups.

He isn't even getting on the bench at the moment, never mind 20 minutes. It's concerning for sure.

That's what I thought. If I remember it correctly they were amazed that he got a high rating on pace in the game. Not that he actually was that fast.

Yup, they looked sceptical when this stat was presented to them.

Endo is an outlier, isn't he?

Who else is like him?

To be fair, the “core” that Slot trusts is not all that small - he actually trusts Tsimikas more than Klopp did, same for Gakpo, not to mention Gravenberch. By all sounds of it, he would have trusted Bradley it he wasn’t so unlucky with injuries (remember Trent being subbed off for Bradley regularly early in the season and being visibly unhappy about it?). Jones started the season on the bench and gradually played himself into the manager’s thinking, now being on equal footing with Szobo and MacAllister.

The only two cases where Slot was a bit harsh with reserve players were Quansah and the aforementioned Endo. Quansah I don’t really have an issue with - just based on experience and seniority, Gomez should be ahead of him in the pecking order. So it just leaves the Endo/Gravenberch situation and I think it’s probably a combination of Slot wanting a specific skill set from his #6 and trusting in the fitness of Gravvy.

Let’s not forget that Klopp also “overplayed” Gini for 90 minutes every 3-4 days and probably these two players have some similarity in terms of durability and endurance. Still, let’s hope we buy another #6-capable midfielder in January to ease the burden on Gravvy a little bit.

You say only Endo, but our midfielders are probably our most hardworking players. They need a rest from time to time. Endo is no scrub and he did really for last season. Its not like you play him and the team implodes.

I've mentioned Gomez before and we'll see if he starts using Elliott more as well.

But we’ve rotated Jones, Mac A & Slobbers - it’s only Gravy that’s been constant, and he he got subbed off early recently.

I think he’s probably going off what his fitness team are telling about players before games as much as he has a preference for a core.

Remember how we thought Szobo was a machine last season until he got injured?

That's bullshit from Arne..
Honestly it sounds like if a player returns from an ACL injury mid season he's completely useless to Arne.
Chiesa is a 27 year old veteran in the game. League winner, Euro champion, it's not some fucking kid from the Academy.
Maybe Southampton, he says...
Fucking hell.
Well if he’s not fit, he’s not fit. Chiesa’s only done one team training session and played 45 minutes with the youth team recently, so it’s clear he’s not fully fit yet, let alone match fit. We can only guess at the reasons, but I really don’t think Slot is holding him back. He’d have loved to give Salah more rest—he even said as much when Elliott came back. Let’s see Chiesa in regular first-team training before jumping to conclusions about Slot being unfair to him.

Yeah - hamstring injuries are a funny thing.

I presume the way to mitigate against getting them is to stretch them more during warm up and warm down, rather than playing less - but I’m as far away from an expert in this field as you could get.

I guess that’s were sports science comes in if Slot and his team believe they can prepare the players for the workload without causing injury.

It’s early days, can’t really tell whether Slot has changed much - Trent, Bradley & Ali have had soft tissue injuries, Ibou, Harvey & Jota’s injuries

Thats fair, but keeping away from matches isn't going to get him match fit. Jota's been out for almost two months, I dont think he's going to play with u21s.

Yeah, I found the FC25 and the consensus was Darwin, Diaz & Cheesie where the fastest.

I’m sure I saw another similar type clinching where a couple of them actually said Cheesiec was the fastest… but I could well have dreamt that.

To be fair, the fastest speed he posted in Italy last season, at just over 36k/h would make certainly make him one of our fastest players.

Apparently this season, Trent has been our fastest!!!!
I just saw on IG that Virgil has been the fastest (at 35.xx kph) in a post showing he's not slowed down with age yet !

Or he is simply shite.

I'm guessing that, especially as you tire, if you over exert that muscle then it will become more liable to stress and damage? Even more so over an extended period of time ?

I wonder if he'd be more willing to experiment of we weren't in serious running for the double.

Really hope Endo Morton Danns and Elliott get a chance soon.
