Didn't they commit themselves some time ago to going for an Englishman next?

They always say that ideally they want an Englishman, but they never say definitely. If they did they might end up getting turned down by all the decent ones and ending up with Neil Warnock or someone.

I know we all maybe laughing at this report and given our experience of him at LFC - we have every right to. But if the FA are going for an English manager and ONLY English - then if Arry says NO then to be honest they only have Hodgson to go for. Simple reasons being:

1) He has experience of being manager of a national side.
2) He has qualified with a national side and guided them to a world cup tournament.

There are not many (hardly any who are managing) in England who have done the above. It was said by Alan Green the other day that Martin O'Neil can be completely ruled out - as he does no think that O'Neil would ever want to manage England - being an Irish man. Personally I don't see why not but there you go.

MORON

MON was one of the candidates when Steve McClaren was given the job. Maybe Alan Green means he wouldn't do it *now*. Otherwise he's talking through his @rse.

Hodgson does have relevant experience, but in what are only minor countries in footballing terms, and he was a failure both times he tried to manage a club in the upper reaches of the Prem (Blackburn and us). The way he went into meltdown as Liverpool manager makes me doubt that he could handle the pressure of the England job, which is not like managing Finland or Switzerland. If 'Arry were not to get it I'd sooner take a chance on Pardew, who has surprised me big time in the way he's managed to take over from Hughton when many of us thought the Toon would drop like a stone. I know what macca's told us about the guy's racism not being far from the surface, and it does bother me, but in pure footballing terms he'd be a more sensible choice IMO.

Bernstein made it very clear at the press conference - they are NOT going for an English manager and only an English manager. They obviously want Redknapp, but they're scared stiff of another Steve McLaren debacle.

I think Rafa would do very well if appointed; but I doubt he'd accept this job which guarantees interference from the FA and vilification in the media.

WEST Bromwich Albion have today received an official approach from The Football Association to speak to Head Coach Roy Hodgson about the England Manager's post.

The Club are currently in negotiations with Roy about a new contract - his current deal ends on June 30 - and remain very keen to bring these talks to a successful conclusion.

However, Roy has expressed a desire to explore this opportunity and, accordingly, the Club have granted him permission to speak to The FA.

Chairman Jeremy Peace said: "Roy has done a fantastic job over the past 15 months and the fact The FA want to discuss the England role with him is testament to that.

"Roy is a proud Englishman and we can understand why he wants to speak to The FA about this highly-prestigious managerial position.

"However, we have emphasised to Roy how much we would like him to remain as our Head Coach and continue his major contribution to our project at The Hawthorns as we look to establish ourselves as a Barclays Premier League club.

"Everyone here has an excellent working relationship with him and he is immensely popular with our supporters."

West Bromwich Albion have today granted permission for The FA to speak with Roy Hodgson regarding the position of England Manager.

This follows an approach from FA Chairman David Bernstein to West Bromwich Albion Chairman Jeremy Peace.

David Bernstein said: "I'm grateful to Jeremy and all at West Bromwich Albion for their co-operation in allowing us to approach Roy, who I have since spoken with.

"Roy is the only manager we have approached and we remain on course to make an appointment within the timescale we set-out soon after Fabio Capello's departure.

"Further conversations will now take place with Roy and my Club England colleagues before any further announcements can be made."

The world will come to an end when England does one massive face rub together when they flop at the Euro's.

How gutted would Harry Redknapp be? From the highs of 'title challenge' to CL qualification and England vacancy favourites to current state?

Good. Horrible, constant tapping up, and getting away with it bastard.

Levy has been playing hardball and the FA is scared stiff of how much it will cost to get Redknapp. It was decided as a consequence to avoid being publicly identified as only wanting Redknapp, so another candidate had to be contacted to give the FA even the slightest bargaining chip with Spurs.

Holy fuck.

How incompetent can the fa actually be?!

this is ridiculous. Its clear a young (ish) manager needs to be brought in & this tourney used to blogs the next generation of players only, with all eyes on the next world cup.

They're fucking useless.

The FA know now that they simply can't meet the demands placed by Levy. Unless Redknapp quits they can't move for him. This is their gamble.

Given the way Tottenham's season is fizzling out, I'm slightly surprised Levy is being quite so hard-nosed about this.

Benson and Hedges up front kind of situation would most certainly ensue!

Most likely. Either way both managers fell apart when any kind of pressure was put on them.

Again, completely correct.

‎"We were in dreamland when we got that corner early doors. Unfortunately for us they went up the other end and banged in three goals without reply. If you take those three goals out of the equation I think any fair minded observer would have said we were the equal of them and deserved the goalless draw. But football's a cruel game, one moment you're winning a corner and then 83 minutes later you've lost 3-0. We can only keep doing what we've been doing and hope that eventually what we're doing works out. What is losing these days anyway? I'm not sure I know myself, but the fact is we lost. But on another day we could've quite easily not lost and that's what we've got to be focused on"
