I'm talking about Daniel Sturridge here. There has been mooted talk of a possible transfer to us. It seems a weird one to me. Don't get me wrong - I'd love him at LFC and it seems a good fit. Chelsea don't need him and it's not as if he has been amazing for them (Yet). Why would they sell him to us though? That would make us a stronger team and more of a threat to Chelsea..... Unless there is an element of 'arm the enemy of your enemy'..... I wonder if this kind of philosophy exists? Thoughts?

I'm not really sure what you're asking to be honest.

Anyway, as I've said before re Sturridge:

- Why would Chelsea sell him to us?
- Would he even want to come to us?
- Assuming the first two questions get answered, he'd then cost about 20M.
- Which he's done nothing to show he is worth
- And I doubt we have 20M to be spending on 'promising' types.

I'd bet anyone a grand that this Sturridge thing doesn't happen.

20M??? Really?

We haggled with Sigurdson about his £50 000 a week demand.
I expect Sturridge to ask for at least £80 000 and he's not even worth it.

He's linked with spurs in today's bbc footy gossip for £5m can't be true at that..

I'm pretty sure he's out of contract at the end of the season so it shouldn't be as high as 20m.

he'll go for about 10, probably to spurs cause boas seemed to like him, but hopefully us, dont think his wages would be too high tbh, he's only young and hasnt really proven anything yet

Sturridge's situation is based more on finance – he turned down the offer of a new £45,000-a-week deal to open negotiations with Chelsea about joining them as a free agent. He would become the best-paid teenager in English football, with a weekly salary around £75,000.

The Professional Football Compensation Committee decided on 14 January 2010, that Chelsea would pay an initial fee of £3.5 million with additional payments of £500,000 after each of 10, 20, 30 and 40 first-team competitive appearances. There will also be a further payment of £1 million if the player makes a full international appearance, and Manchester City will receive 15 percent of any sell-on fee if Sturridge is transferred.

By that rationale Henderson would have cost us next to nothing. If he goes to a big club, I expect it will be closer to 20m.

Yeah, his only 2 appearances for England have come in friendlies, so he can still be saved like Victor Moses was.

Joking aside i've no idea how Sturridge didn't get selected to play in Euro 2012, he had a very fine season until Di Matteo benched him, was Man of the Match in the Netherlands friendly in February, possesses a great natural left-peg, he's also quick-footed and has good technique. It should've been Rooney, Sturridge and two or three others.

Which forward would you have selected him ahead of?

Yeah I'd agree with this. I'd say Chelsea would let him go for 10m

Putting my non-Liverpool cap on, I would've had him in for Carroll or Downing. Sturridge, although his preferred position is centre-forward, he can play wide-left. Carroll in my opinion only squeezed himself into the squad because of his rich run of form towards the end of the season and because Hodgson is manager as he cherishes his big, burly target men. Welbeck can do the target man role also and he's more technical, faster and provides more movement than Carroll, so there's no point in having two players who can do the same role within the squad especially when one has other facets to his game aswell. *Puts Liverpool cap back on*
