When you compare our play vs Stoke with Kenny's last few games we've come a very long way in a little over a year. Villa away and then Utd at home are big tests. If we get 6 points its on, however if we lose/draw both then it's another case of 1 step forward 2 steps back

3.3m part 2 - The only promise I made, it was simple really, I promised three things - the first being open communication.....!!

I'm very ambitious - I want liverpool to be the best that they can be.

interesting.

I like him, I think hes been handed a shit sandwich by the board to large degree, last year they hung him out to dry letting Carrol go at the 11th hour and not replacing him, til Jan, it meant Rodgers was under alot of pressure from the start. This year it appears we have gone back to our habits of not pulling the trigger on our key targets and we have stood still while Spurs have reinforced big time. Hes had to learn on the job here, there is no substitute for the sort of pressure he will have felt in his first game against Utd or a merseyside derby, this club has different standards.

I think Macca is right (great post by the way), he did appear to have an epiphany at some point during the season. It was almost as if he walked in first day, with alot of questions over his appointment, and tried to mask his insecurities by acting like he was some sort of managerial legend. It came off all wrong and alot of people had concerns about him. I'll take Maccas word for it that it was the Uefa cup game, but at some point he had his head readjusted (and his teeth), hes adapted his style, admitted some mistakes and generally done a fantastic job from about Feb onwards.

He talks the club up relentlessly, hes quietly going about the long overdue task of rebuilding the team without half of the financial clout previous managers have had. There is plenty of work still to be done and Im sure hes going to make more mistakes but I think hes doing a great job.

I agree with the sentiment of your post but not necessarily the detail. I can't see how Brendan wasn't involved with the decision to release Carroll at the 11th hour, he's always spoke his mind every since the owners offered him the job in the first place (i.e. not wanting it because he wasn't going to work with a Technical Director). So I don't believe he was left hung out to dry, that may have been the consequence of the late decision but he was complicit to it. Also, what makes you think the reasons were that we didn't pull the trigger for our targets: we have no idea why Williams didn't sign for us and it looks like Spurs suffered the same fate. As an example Williams could've been asking for a huge wage and a cheap get out clause if we didn't get into the CL. Things that made the contract intangible.

With regards Carroll I think Rodgers was complicit in moving him on, but I also think he had been given assurances that other players would be brought in, possibly Sturridge or Dempsey

Asked if Carroll would have gone had Rodgers known he would not be able to secure a replacement, he offered a one-word reply: “No!” But when pressed on what had happened to his plans to replace him—with Clint Dempsey his No 1 target—Rodgers was more forthcoming.
He added: “I was very confident I had a deal sewn up but it has gone and I can’t do anything about it. There’s no point me crying about it or wishing we had or hadn’t done this or that...”

As for not pulling the trigger on our signings this season I think we obviously had a number of options but with the uncertainty over Suarez the board didnt want to make any major moves until his situation was settled and we let things go cold

I don't see how the Owners or the board would possibly give those assurances. All they can do is ensure there is money and have a scouting and legal structure in place to identify the players and do the paperwork. They can't force a player to sign or make the player agree to a contract they're not willing to sign. So, Brendan still hasn't been hung out to dry by them. Williams obviously wanted something in his contract that wasn't agreeable to us, and/or his agent wanted a shed load of cash that was also not agreeable to us.
The only uncertainty over Suarez was which team would put in an official bid. Only Arsenal did and with them taking the piss with the £40 + £1 crap they kinda shot themselves in the foot and lost any chance of signing him.

But to get back to the thread. Brendan Rodgers is doing well, the teams form this year is very good (definitely top 4 standard), on average he's bought well and he's dealt with the Suarez situations well. There also doesn't seem to be a them and us with the media.

Future is bright... for now.

Another problem (maybe not the right word, but I'm sure you know what I mean) he had last year was having to navigate his way through the aftermath of the Hillsborough revelations. Wonderful news, yes, but I felt for him a bit as manager because he was stuck in an invidious position, having to talk about it but obviously not having lived through it like everyone else. If he'd said too little he would have been regarded as aloof and insensitive by some, and if he'd said too much he would have been slated by others. It must have felt uncomfortable, particularly when everyone else at the club was so emotional and united. I think it took a while after that before he could really feel 'embedded' in the club.

That my friend is an excellent observation.

He is having a great summer and start to the season, I like how he is trying to really put his stamp on the team. I want him here for years to come!

I reckon that Being Liverpool thing almost destroyed him as far as I was concerned. There was no way back from those levels of Ron Managerness. And the devaluation of Andy Carroll... it seemed so amateur. Now.. I still turn the sound down when it's his turn to speak but I have got to say he seems to have a lot more ability than I thought he would have. On both counts. He now knows what to say and he knows how to handle difficult situations, like with Suarez etc... and in terms of football... we have whole swathes of games where the fluidity goes missing, but when it clicks it's as good as anything we've seen at Anfield for twenty years. It does feel like it's the start of something. Since Rafa's last season the side and the manager has always looked like a stuttering drunk that needed a crash team on standby, whereas this squad and coach seem like a machine that's just starting to get into motion, cogs gradually starting to slot into place and turn. Or something.

He really seems to know what he's doing. He seems to have a good eye for talent, tactically astute, gets on with the players but also doesn't stand for any shit.

This year I was in Spain so thankfully I didn't see Being Liverpool, or catch many of his pre/post match interviews, so he seems pretty normal to me.

Didn't he only sign a 3 year contract? That means he will only have a year after this season, right?

Oh crap, now we'll have to start worrying about the possibility of Brendan wanting to join Arsenal next year.

Rodgers had no real option but to do the program, the owners had already got Kenny signed up to do it before they sacked him. The owners had put him in an impossible position with reagrds to being Liverpool.

When's Brendan going to earn his own song?

For some players, we are writing songs even before they signed...

To the tune of "Rawhide":

Brendan, Brendan, Brendan
Brendan, Brendan, Brendan

Brendan, Brendan, Brendan

Brendan!

That'll have to do until he wins something.
