[article=http://www.marca.com/2013/10/23/en/football/international_football/1382556327.html]Rafa Benítez was the forerunner to many Spanish coaches who headed abroad when almost nobody travelled overseas. Tuesday was a special day for him. His Napoli side beat Marseille at the Velodrome (2-1) and ensured it will continue challenging for a place in the last 16, but he also coached his 100th Champions League match.

His stats are also quite impressive with 57 wins, 21 draws and 22 defeats. Along the way, his teams have scored a total of 175 goals and conceded 91. So we might say he’s a defensive coach. He coached 14 games with Valencia, 76 with Liverpool, 6 with Inter, 1 with Chelsea and has coached three so far at Napoli, although there are obviously more to come.

Rafa is the first Spanish coach to reach this milestone. Legendary coach Miguel Muñoz, who led Real Madrid 71 times in the old European Cup, follows him in second place. There are only six coaches ahead of Benítez in the European rankings: Ferguson (214), Wenger (177), Ancelotti (125), Mourinho (110), Lucescu (107) and Hitzfeld (101).

'Rafé', as he is nicknamed at Napoli, continues adding to his career, the highlights of which include the Champions League title with Liverpool and the Europa League with Chelsea amongst other international silverware.

Regarding the win in Marseille, the Madrid-born coach said that "it was an outstanding win for the entire squad. Even those players who did not play on the night contributed to preparing for this challenge as best they could."[/article]

34 - Bayern hatte gegen Pilsen 35-1 Torschüsse, eine solche Differenz gab es in der CL in 90 Minuten noch nie seit Datenerfassung. Übermacht
Translation: “Bayern had 35-1 shots on goal against Plzen, such a difference has never existed in the [Champions League] in 90 minutes since data collection. Superiority.”

Bayern have held an average possession advantage of 71% so far in the Champions League, the highest of any team. Their 76 shot attempts are also the most of any team, while they’ve conceded only five shots on target thus far, another top mark. And Wednesday’s win was Bayern’s eighth straight Champions League victory, a new club record.

Binny have you been to Anfield? If not, I'm going to start a GET BINNY TO ANFIELD campaign going.

[article]Marko Arnautovic is the first away player to score a free-kick at Old Trafford since Charlie Adam (Blackpool) back in May 2011.[/article]

28 Oct:
[article]There have been 30 goals scored by substitutes in the Premier League this season! And, in the last two weekends, a sub has scored nine times:

Oscar (Chelsea), Sagbo (Hull), Pienaar (Everton), Dummett (Newcastle), Ramsey (Arsenal), Osman (Everton), Morrison (West Bromwich Albion), Hernandez (Manchester United), Borini (Sunderland).[/article]

Roma's summer signing Mehdi Benatia (who cost €13.5m)
[article=http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/pitchside-europe/mehdi-magnificent-without-rival-serie-season-143156979.html]Quite incredibly, Benatia has now been on the winning side in each of his last 16 games [seven for Udinese, nine for Roma]. Only one player in Serie A history has been on such a streak. That was Dejan Stankovic in 2006. Part of the Inter side that won 17 games in a row in 2006, a Serie A record, he missed the game that interrupted that series of results - a 1-1 draw with Udinese - then came back and picked up where he left off before his own run ended at 20. Can Benatia go beyond it? With Chievo, Torino, Sassuolo, Cagliari and Atalanta next up on Roma’s fixture list, perhaps he might just be able to, yes.[/article]

[article=http://www.football-italia.net/41213/pirlo-eyes-mihajlovic-record]Andrea Pirlo is now just five free-kick goals away from equalling the Serie A record tally of Sinisa Mihajlovic.

The Juventus ace scored his 23rd direct free-kick last night in the 4-0 win over Catania, moving one clear of former colleague Alessandro Del Piero.

His last remaining target is Mihajlovic, the former Roma, Lazio, Sampdoria and Inter man who struck 28 times in the top-flight from set-pieces.

Pirlo has scored two for Brescia, three for Reggina, 10 for Milan and last night’s was his eighth in the Division for the Old Lady.

Top five free-kick scorers in Serie A: 1 Sinisa Mihajlovic (28), 2 Andrea Pirlo (23), 3 Alessandro Del Piero (22), =4 Roberto Baggio and Gianfranco Zola (20).[/article]

article-2480020-191496CC00000578-436_306x481.jpg

Should this be 'Mourinho's record against every other manager?' I can't believe Pardew has a 100% record against him.[/article]

Just in time for Moyes to be saying in this morning's paper that he reckons Shrek and van Persil are the better and - get this - more versatile pairing.

Interesting that we're still hitting the woodwork more than anybody else. Can't the coaches do something about that?
