I know it's years ago but the first time I heard of it was on this forum from @Judge Jules, and only today I had a chance to watch a documentary about it.
Incredible stuff really - like with all great rescue operations, a lot of luck was needed (ineptitude of the 'rebels,' the set up of the camp from one of the hostages etc).
What stood out to me was the recon team that was there for days and actually was key in the initial elimination of threats to the hostages - to be out like that for so long, with little food and water, and to be that alert and that good in 'real time' is a incredible.
