If he goes to City it will be a huge kick in the teeth for Wenger who recently said Arsenal was becoming a feeder club for City

I agree with Ken. I doubt they want to keep him. Sell him while hes still worth the money to pay for 2 x replacements.

Just like we became a feeder club for Chelsea, Barca and Real 🙁

Aye, but they haven't done too badly out of that either.

This is off the top of my head, so I may be way off:

Adebayor - 25M - waste of money.
Kolo Toure - 15m - he's shite.
Clichy - 5M - average
Nasri - 25M - great player, but he was average for City last year.

So, they've got about 70M out of City and there's only one real loss out of that lot.

On Tuesday, Wenger wrote in his Eurosport column: "We want to keep Robin van Persie at all costs, because we depend on him offensively. I have always supported him, even in the hardest times, and I hope he will end his career at Arsenal."

Sounds like they wanted him out alright

I don't rate Clichy that highly, well I didn't anyway, but he's come on alot over the last season. He's been better for City than he was for Arsenal.

As RVP, what the fuck are City going to do with their other 10 strikers?

They could flog off Tevez too us (if they want), sell Adebayor to Spurs (likely), move Dzeko to Bayern/Italy etc

ha what a coincidence he announces what he is to do on the day I ask the question in a thread, maybe he is a 6cm fan

Anyway I am not sure anyone will pay over £15 million with a year only left, cannot see Ars getting great value they never should have let him get this near to the end of his contract in the first place.

I think he will go abroad, I do think he will show some loyalty and not go to another english club. City don't need him anyway really.

Maybe if he does surprise me and go to city it will be Adam Johnson to go the other way, I am still holding out hope we get him for our right wing.

I dont understand why Arsenal keep letting players run their contracts to a year? For such a massive club they fuck that up regularly

Because they don't sign players to contracts for the years they're going to be not so good. We do this regularly because "you can't sell your best players" and end up being shit.

See Ryan's post about who they've already sold to City. Nasri being the exception.

Or maybe he was trying to keep the fee high. He's a sly bugger, is Wenger.

They sold Thierry Henry who won 2 leagues and a champions league in the next three seasons. They sold Fabregas who has won league and cup in Barcelona. They sold Flamini when he was becoming vital for them. They sold Nasri who was great for them.
Theyve been doing it for years. Im not saying our way is the right way, but in the past decade Arsenal have lost a shit load of talent with lots still to give. Right back to Overmars, Petit, Vieira, Pires, Diarra, Anelka etc
Now i know historically they have done well at filling in the gaps, but it'll be 7 years now without a trophy. And another club captain and WORLD class player is leaving on the cheapish.
Mad.

Fuck him. Fuck Arsenal. and fuck this RVP shit. Always hated him. There is no place for the Arsenal love in if you are a real Red. That's my feelings anyway. The topic of these 'Hoof' shouting cunts is no place to start being objective.

Cesc won 3 cups I think, but no league (last year was his first year)

No offence to you LeTallecWiz but referring to that little runt as 'Cesc' grates to fuck too. He didn't play for us, which is the only excuse unless you know him personally. Dirk, yes, Stevie, yes, Jamie, yes. Cesc, no. He was a typical Arsenal tit.

Fuck off somewhere else then?
Its a football forum on a Liverpool website. Not a Liverpool forum.

They didn't sign Giroud and Podolski as quickly as they did to replace Chamakh and Bendtner. They did it because they knew that Van Persie was more than likely going to leave. People in football talk through their ass all the time - there is little point in reading too much into what they say.

I suspect Wenger would've been happy to keep him but overall the club was probably resigned to losing him. I don't blame Van Persie either. They're not going to win anything in the near future and after 8 years at the club the time is right for him to leave if he wants to win something.

Oncy - look at RVP now. Realistically he's getting five years and between seven and ten million a season for the duration. That's a massive risk with his history.

I think its certain that injury free he's go 2-3 top level seasons left in him. Seasons where he will be worth his salary.

Is it better to let him go now seemingly on the cheap, having already wrapped up. Or is it better to keep him and give him the last two years wages for fuck all?

it's entirely possible Podolski and Giroud's fees and wages would be the same as RVP's over the next three years. I'd wager that combined they'll at least match him over the next three and outdo him after that.

If Wenger wanted to push for a title next season and keep RVP til the end of the deal. They'd still have replacements already in place.

Looking back now I've pretty much convinced myself the worst thing Arsenal could do is sign him to a long deal

I said earlier I can see why they want to sell, I would probably too, but why let him get to a year AGAIN to devalue the product.
Why not offer him a 4 year deal last year @ whatever ludicrous salary he wants so that you can sell him this year at a mint?

I have to say I appreciate being able to talk about serious football topics on this site (which are of interest to almost all fans) without having to f** off to some ridiculous part of the site like the "flagpole corner" next to the basketball section...

Quite. It sounds more like he was saying "look fans, it's not us that wants him to go, it's him. We loved him and gave him everything".
