Rubbish Transfer Rumours

The worst thing is, I started supporting this club in 89, 11 years old and I cant think of one manager in those 26 years.

Joe Musker has written an article on Di Marzio's site saying our main summer targets are Milner, Ings, Benteke, Pjanic, Carvalho and Montoya.

Mid-table mediocrity, here we come.

Summer '87 I think is the best transfer spree I've known in my time supporting the club. Technically Aldridge had arrived before then, but Barnes, Beardsley, Aldridge, Houghton (who came once the season started, if I remember correctly) - an amazing set of players to bring in. I'm not sure we've had a better 'window' (although the window didn't exist then) since I started following Liverpool.

If we're after Milner, Ings, Benteke, Pjanic, Carvalho and Montoya, I'd be happy with all bar Benteke. I want us to sign someone who is going to hassle defenders from start to finish, like Rush and Suarez did for us. Benteke ain't that.

Liverpool plot £21.7m move for defender to catch Chelsea, Arsenal, Man United and City

LIVERPOOL have been scouting Real Sociedad defender Inigo Martinez ahead of a possible summer switch.

By Jonathan Green / Published 11th May 2015

Spanish journalist Kike Marin claims Liverpool officials were in the stands for Sociedad's game against Barcelona on Saturday to cast their eye over the 23-year-old.
And they could be ready to activate Martinez's £21.7m release clause to bring the him to Anfield this summer.
Brendan Rodgers is expecting a busy summer of transfer activity after a disappointing season which sees the Reds destined to finish outside the top four.

ANY ADVICE: Inigo Martinez battles former Liverpool star Luis Suarez for possession on Saturday [GETTY]
And signing a centre-back is one of his top priorities given Dejan Lovren's struggles since arriving from Southampton last summer and question marks over the futures of Kolo Toure and Martin Skrtel.
Martinez is highly regarded in Spain and has won one senior cap for Vicente Del Bosque's national side.
He has made over 120 appearances for Sociedad since his debut in 2011 and has previously been linked with moves to Manchester United and Manchester City.

The squad will improve with better technical player, but don't think this will be enough to close the gap with Chelsea.

Need at least 2 top class players in the mould of Sanchez.

We don't need anymore Centre Backs. What's more important is getting them organised. Our defensive discipline is awful and it's easy to continually swap and change the players and say the next one will sort it out. Maybe it's not the players but a manager who looks to be incapable of drilling a defensive unit successfully Even mid to lower table managers like Pulis,Hughes ,Allardyce and Bruce can organise a defence.

Duncan Castles, he of hating Liverpool and in particular Brendan Rodgers and, oddly, Martin Skrtel, reckons we're close to an agreement for Martin Montoya from Barcelona. 10 million euro.

I've seen a few people mention his name. Assuming we get him, that leaves us with Montoya, Moreno, Flanno, Enrique and Manquillo.

Out of those, I wouldn't be surprised to see Manquillo and / or Enrique leave.

That leaves us with 3 full backs (plus Can). I'm still not sure that's enough if you consider Flanno's injury problems and Moreno's lack of brainpower.

Not sure you can count on Flanagan to be honest, when there's still uncertainty about whether he'll actually be here. There are also doubts about Manquillo. We do need a left back as well. I'd say full back has been more of a problem than centre back this season.

Isn't it difficult to know what signings we need without knowing what formation were actually going to play?

If its 3CBs we probably need another CB but maybe dont need a LB/LWB, if its 2 up front we need at least one and probably 2 strikers. The only position we definitely don't need is AM

I think we need a central AM come CF, as at the moment we only have Courtinho.

I'm hoping he'll be here as he's the only fullback we currently have that can defend. I'm not sure Brendan rates defending as a useful skill though.

Agreed.

Im not sure - I look at Coutinho, Lallana and Sterling as all wanting to play in the No.10 position (plus, god help us, Aspas and Alberto when they return). Markovic also said he likes playing centrally the fop, and BR said Ibe plays everywhere across the attack. As such i'm thinking not really a priority.

Mirror and some people on twitter claiming we've bid for Kovacic. Silly season in full swing, I reckon!

We definitely need a midfielder that can score 10 plus goals a season with SG's departure. Sterling, Markovic and Ibe will deployed on the wings, we need someone like Ya Ya Toure who can make 40 yard runs and play that killer pass.

This really is becoming a little cliched. We went through a bad patch but despite that we have only conceded 3 goals more than the Mancs and Ming is lined up for Golden Gloves, after his welcome return of confidence. He's looked damned good for a couple of months at least now.

Also most of our changes to central defence (after Lovren's meltdown and removal) have been enforced. I can't imagine BR was thinking of Can as a pillar of the defence.

Skrtel, Sakho, Lovren and one new CB will be our central defence next season and it looks pretty strong to me, with a season under their belts I can only imagine they'll be better next season. If we continue with 3 at the back he'll need 5 CBs not four so maybe Kolo will stay or Can will continue as the last resort.

It is Lallana's natural position, where he played most of his time at Southampton. If BR wasn't so sold on Sterling as his answer to every attacking problem then he'd have had plenty of starts there already.

It didn't look cliched against Villa,United , Hull or even QPR at times. I haven't got a problem with Mignolet as he seems to have his head screwed on now but we've hardly got a solid defence. I feel a bit sorry for Can as after doing very well initially at right sided centre back the longer he's played there the more he's been exposed.
Also i don't think any of our full backs have adapted particularly well to the 3 at the back system but that's probably got a lot to do with us trying to play wingers there .
