PSG interested in Coutinho

I think the more this drags on the more likely he is to leave.

he's been with us 4 seasons now and won NOTHING...

no point in keeping behind a world class talent from progressing to greater things, with PSG he'll likely win 4 major league trophies in 1 season which is what football is all about ( ligue 1, coupe de la ligue, coupe de france, french super cup) as well as last 8 in CL.

I'm sure he'd rather play with the likes of cavani moura di maria luiz and silva as opposed to lallana milner henderson and ings.
He's not world class

Spoken like a real fan

Of PSG
Spoken like a football fan who's watched football around europe the past 5 years and can tell you liverpool have won 0 while psg have won 10 major trophies and qualified for CL every year and us once.

Stop being an idiot.

I thought he was off his head when he signed for 70k a week fairly recently. I thought we were pretty stupid too, given that any club in Europe would pay him at least double that.

He's gone.

He had gone a bit crap regardless. Every defender in the league knew he was going to cut inside and shoot and he didn't seem to have many answers. I'd much rather he stayed but that lack of development was beginning to do my head in.

Ah, of course. You're a football fan. I'm a Liverpool fan.

We are very different.

Of course I realise that PSG would offer a more obvious and immediate route to success and medals. That doesn't mean I want him to go there, and if he does, I hope he fucking fails miserably and wins fuck all.

I really don't take football serious enough to care about being as bitter as you.

Are you the type to wish every night for Roy and Brendan to die in their sleep as well?

And yes we are very different, if he left... i'd wish him all the best and that's it, carry on with my every day life tuning into how Liverpool are doing with the players that are here and not the ones that have left.

I don't want him to go but I won't begrudge him if he does. It's gutting, but it's where we're at, but as brilliant as he is, he does have a lot of shortcomings.

A couple of years ago I would be devastated with any suggestion of Coutinho leaving, but now I don't consider him essential. In the last couple of years he developed into less of a playmaker, which was initially my hope for him, and more into a winger whose primary weapon is to cut inside and shoot. Now, he's pretty good at it and has scored some crucial goals for us last season. But he is not quick and powerful enough to do it on a consistent basis, like someone like Ronaldo or Robben, and when teams devise a plan to stop him from cutting inside, his threat is practically nullified.

He is a superb talent and maybe under Klopp's tutelage he can work to diversify his game, so I'm not advocating pushing out of the door – far from it. He is unquestionably one of our best players. But for the right price (£60M+) I could consider selling him and replacing him with a pacier player with an eye for goal. Klopp's game is based on the collective intelligence and decision-making of a group of players and is less dependent on individual qualities of players, even ones as brilliant as Coutinho.

We really don't want to be selling Coutinho. I'm sick of us losing our best player season on season.

There's plenty of dross to get rid of.

He can be great, but doesn't seem to hit that level often enough. If PSG are crazy enough to pay an outrageous fee, let him go.

I'm not really sure you can class trophies won in La Ligue as "major" trophies. Unless you are a French football fan that is.

I'm surprised that people are so blase about Suarez Sterling Coutinho going.

Ok, so not quite as comparable with Suarez for obvious reasons but there does seem to be an odd trend of thinking that as long as we have X amount of money, it's fine if one of our best (but flawed) players leaves. What's that saying about doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?

Yeah, I find some of the reactions absurd. Coutinho can be inconsistent, and obviously has some flaws, but that seems to be the nature of most AMs at the moment - the PL is chock-full of them - who's more consistent than Coutinho? Maybe only de Bruyne. The likes of Gotze Isco, and James who were supposedly bigger talents than Coutinho haven't exactly set the world alight themselves either, have they. Coutinho's very much in the same bracket, and we should absolutely be doing everything possible to keep hold of him.

As for selling him and using the cash to buy better players, when will people learn that's purely theoretical and never ever happens with us? And I'm not sure what magic pull people are expecting Klopp to have. Klopp's come in and identified RWF as the priority position to strengthen, and what've we seen?

Outpriced for Teixeira. Dembele choosing Dortmund as the better project. Gotze declining to move for lack of CL football. We're now scrounging for deals - the overpriced 4th choice Sadio Mane or the 18 year old nobody Emre Mor.

Yeah. I remember when Owen left and there was a load of spastics saying that they didn't care because Baros was better anyway, and all Owen did was score goals.

I also think people have too much trust in Klopp in identifying the right players for the right money. Dont get me wrong, Klopp might be a very good judge of a player, better than most managers quite possibly. But the recruitment at Dortmund was conducted by a team including Zorc and other scouts. So it is not 100% clear, how much of Dortmund's recruitment success is due to Klopp. Even if he was the main contributor, he still had a very good team supporting him. Even the great Shankly and Paisley had outstanding scouts like Twentyman supporting them.

Klopp has the same elite team which recommended Balotelli as a Suarez replacement supporting him.

I really don't want this to happen. We don't have too many players left who can reach his level.

Granted his consistency is an issue but still I do not want him sold.

He’s inconsistent and not worth the World-Class tag that some people give him but he’s probably our best player when he’s on it. We have a terrible track record of cashing in on our best and wasting the money so I wouldn’t rush into a deal here. He had his best season last year and there’s still scope for improvement.
As for what he’s worth, I assume the 50M and 60M people are waving about is purely PSG premium as, on his own merits, he’s a 20ishM player, no more.
That said, I’d go if I was him. Champs League quarters every year, big bag of medals and twice the salary we give him, what’s not to like?

He isn't get much help from our midfield. Coutinho is one of our best players if not the best. Sort out the midfield and Coutinho will show that he is one of the best players in the world IMO.

Says a lot when Moreno is one of our most creative players.

I think that he will leave. Clubs have talked to his representatives and I doubt that they would do that if Coutinho didn't say to them that he want out.

Joyce is by the way one of best journalists on the net. Top class inside Liverpool info. He don't imagine things up.

Ouch, that's a pretty pessimistic assessment. I'm glad we didn't overpay for Teixeira, but missing out on Dembele and, most likely, Gotze does sting. Well, all I can say, let's see how this looks after the summer transfer window is over. I believe in Klopp's ability to identify talent and I think LFC has enough financial muscle to allow him to build his vision here.

It will get better when we replaced Ayre. We need a top class DoF. Someone with top class contacts all over the world. Someone the top class players respect a lot.

He has became our main goal threat when he shouldn't. He used to do those delicate through passes to our forwards but that has totally dried up with our lack of runners up front. Now like you said he turns up on the high left to try to create something but the door inevitably shuts and he just does his drop shoulder and shoot routine. If he is to continue being played this way we should get rid. He is just not consistent enough as a goal scorer.

But if we are to play him slightly deeper and bring in some mobile strikers or Origi running in front of him we could open up a new/better dimension to his play. Then I would prefer he stays for next season.
