Divock Origi after signing for Liverpool
Liverpool FC look set to reach an agreement with Lille to bring striker Divock Origito Anfield this month.
The Reds signed the young Belgian frontman for £10million last summer but under the terms of the transfer they sent him back to the French outfit on a season-long loan.
However, with Brendan Rodgers ' side in desperate need of more firepower in the second half of the campaign Liverpool have sought to move forward his arrival.
The Reds are prepared to pay up to £3million to secure Origi's services six months earlier than planned.
No deal is yet in place with Lille but the initial discussions have been encouraging and Anfield officials are confident they will reach a successful conclusion.
Origi is desperate to begin his Liverpool career after enduring a torrid campaign in France.

Lille are struggling in 13th place in Ligue One and the 19-year-old, who has scored four goals this season, hasn't found the net since October.
He was even booed by his own fans after missing a penalty against Wolfsburg last month.
Rodgers recently revealed that he was in regular contact with Origi and that Liverpool staff analyse each of his matches in France and provided feedback.
“We believe Divock Origi will be world class,” Rodgers said.
“He is a top player. He has everything - the speed, the profile and he could play for Liverpool now.
“He can run in behind, he can keep the ball and he can press.”
Origi would give Rodgers another attacking option as he looks to mastermind a push for Champions League qualification over the coming months.

Liverpool have been short of firepower in the continued absence of the injured Daniel Sturridge.
Fellow strikers Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini don't have a single league goal between them and face uncertain futures.
Sturridge, who hasn't played for the Reds since August, will return to Melwood this week to complete his rehabilitation from a thigh injury after having treatment in America.
Liverpool hope he will be fit to play against his former club Chelsea in the two-legged Capital One Cup semi-final later this month.

The guy has hardly been scoring for fun in France. Should be left there until the summer. Only Liverpool would pay 3 million for a player they already own.

He might be a great player in the future but not now would be a case of wastonh more money! !!

We'd be a bit stupid to bring a young, non-scoring striker into a high pressured "must score" situation.

If the money available is going towards a competent goalkeeper and we are moving on Borini I can see the logic but Id still rather he stayed in France til the summer

As I said in the other thread. He's being played out of position, Lille are crap and the fans think he's head is already in Liverpool and are questioning his commitment.

Based on what he said when this idea was originally floated a while back, they're right ("his" head BTW 😛).

Still not sure this is the best idea, but if he's that set on coming here it may be worth a try.

I've no idea what's happening at Lille save for these reports, but if he IS having a hellish season there then I guess it might be prudent to remove him from that toxic atmosphere and work with him now with a view to next season. In terms of the team, as such, here and now, it doesn't look that promising an addition, but who knows, he might flourish in his new surroundings.

Seems to step up when playing for Belgium, i e in a better team.
So we could hope but I don't think we should have to high hopes for what he brings to the team this season.

Carrying a groin injury... so he will be useless for at least 4 weeks..
@Origi - forget my advice about listing the football league clubs and ignore the criticism about being early; a man in this condition exceeds expectations just by making an effort

Perhaps we are already looking at this season as a bit of a write off and want to gear up as much as possible for next season?

It's gonna be like Star Trek films where you get one good season then a shite one then a good one. I reckon last season was the 'Borg' one and now we've got the shitty one that even Tom Hardy couldn't save.

Lille shouldn't be too unwilling to let him leave if he's not having a good season and they are languishing in mid-table - better get some extra money for him and invest in a striker who wants to be there long-term. For Origi's development I think it's better to come to us early - we're not Man City or Chelsea, we are a good club for young players to develop, particularly if manager is a fan (as Rodgers seems to be of Origi). And we are a far more attackng team then Lille, so he'll have more chances to attack and score.

I also think if we don't sign another striker in January to "leave space" for Origi's arrival in the summer that's going to raise pressure and expectations much more. Whereas with him coming earlier than expected he will have a nice settling-in period with much less expectation from fans - and probably playing in a more successful team (as Rodgers' teams always have better 2nd half of the season). So it's a win-win for everybody and most of all for Liverpool, because we desperately need real quality and pace in attack and besides Sturridge (and to some extent Sterling) we have nobody with both quality and pace. Judging by what I saw of him for Belgium, Origi really knows how to lead the line, there is a presence about him. Even if he doesn't score much, he'll help our game, I'm sure of it.

I'm sure this lads a good player - haven't seen that much if him, to be fair.

However - if we pin all our hopes of him turning our season around and leading our line then we're already heaping too much pressure on him and almost dooming him to failure.

Bringing in a very young unproven striker to a side with no real striker to speak of (bar sicknote sturridge) & playing at a level way below itself, with no solid defence, a continually changing midfield & formation , is wrong on many levels.

It'll be bad for both the player & the club.

He is injured and had a MRI scan. Doesn't look like its serious though, but yet to be confirmed.

Wait a minute FFF. He has a groin strain. He is a regular on the Belgian national team. I think you make be over-reacting a bit.
Perhaps.

I just don't ever think you bring a young player into a side that's struggling for form as much as ours is now.
