Not sure I agree. There's no real excuse for the number of chances we've wasted, but Virgil's absence and the loss of Gomez and Matip on top of that have affected the whole balance of the side. As well as losing all our top three CBs, Fabinho's getting dragged back into defence has meant losing a sod of a lot of our cutting edge without his protection of the back four and use of the ball from that position. In any season not as grossly deformed as this one has been by injury, we'll still be there or thereabouts.

Of course our defence will be better, but it's not going to solve the problems we have up front, its not going to solve our lack of goals from midfield, it's not going to stop our sterile posession against a low block. I think this team has peaked and without serious changes we are not doing anything of note next year.
