Pre-match thread: Liverpool vs Newcastle

Is it any coincidence that Minamino was in DONAVANs (sic) profile pic and got sacked off, and now Mane is.... and it’s clear to everyone how that is going?

If we were in the 1700s I feel like that’s more than enough evidence to drown him in the 6CM village pond. If he goes for the mongy smiley face again, I’m taking that as agreement from him and permission for us to push ahead with punishment
🙂

I thought Salahs effort levels in the last 10mins were absolutely disgraceful. Like, genuinely unprofessional and worthy of a manager intervention. It’s perverse that he throws a hissy fit everytime he gets subbed, and yet puts in that couldn’t-give-a-shit bollocks. He’ll be the first one saying “sorry folks, it’s a short career, I need CL football”
Not sure what you were watching. Look out for him with the disallowed goal. He’s back in our box

Look again numbnuts, in the lead up to the disallowed goal, and the chance before. Both coughed up by Salah not being strong on the ball or in the tackle.

I guess it’s the difference between watching the game live and catching up with the highlights; so how’s about shutting your trap. Assume you were saving yourself for the United game tomorrow.

Because the Grim Reaper decided to practise on our CBs and we didn't have one left whom Jürgen considered capable of stepping in. For all the chances that we've missed, and admittedly shouldn't have, it's the decimation of our central defence which has jiggered our whole shape this season.

Agreed, added the loss of Henderson for so long has also really hurt our mentality. Henderson and van Dijk are two massive leaders and vocal points, and every team in the World would miss leaders like that.

Our team looked so much better with Phillips and Kabak at CB and Fabinho back in midfield. You could see against Leeds and Newcastle how the shape of the team once again was all over the place when you made those changes again and changed up the CBs.

But the drop off in return from Firmino can not be overlooked. He looks close to finished in all honesty. Mane will be back to his best, but Covid and being metally tired has really fucked up his season.

Theory: we would have held on to win against both Leeds & Newcastle if we’d kept Fabinho in DM and played a defender in defence. Our run towards ‘for ‘ came when we had Fabs running midfield.

why did we decide that we should undo this formula?
Because Klopp thinks both Ben Davies and Minivan Dijk are shit.
Our midfield should always be composed of 1 DM + 2 CM's or 1 DM + 1 CM + 1 AM. We have no attacking midfielders at the moment. So go get one.
And buy a real fucking striker. We need at least one player on the pitch that is lethal in front of goal.

Knee jerk? Where have you been for the last 8 months
Watching a team struggle through injuries that would have ended most teams’ season.

it’s painful, but it happens. But some of the reactions are hysterical. The season is done and dusted and I’m tired of the constant sometimes unrealistic negativity. I’m just going to support the team as well as I can and watch us kick ass next season.
I don’t think the team needs a rebuild. It needs some decent additions, but I don’t think it’s as bad as some would have us believe. That’s not a pop at the forum, but at negativity in general. Be it online chats or press commentary.
The team needs support through a tough time.

I absolutely agree that Firmino needs to be replaced, I'm just not sure how Klopp does it. I might be overthinking it but the way the front three works is partly about Bobby creating space for Mane and Salah; if we get a goalscorer instead then that function of the front three isn't going to be there. So are Mane and Salah going to be as effective? I can't help thinking we need a restructured front three when Bobby stops being first choice. I don't know how easy or not that'll be.

Klopps comments yesterday were quite telling I thought. Didnt like the mentality of several of the players, and the drop off with the amount of points against the bottom 6 clubs has been ridiculous. He'll make changes.

It is the last few minutes of games. Just see the game out.

What surprised me is that Klopp usually gets another defender on. Why he didn't this time around despite all the warning signs like a disallowed goal, kinda baffles me...

I'm not so sure. We should have more than one competent defensive midfielder too.

I understand the fact that people think that Firmino should be scoring more goal, and it is a concern, but if you look at the 2018/19 & 2019/20 season Firmino was setting up a lot of goal for both Salah and Mane and chipping in with a few himself. He is the main goal provider and goal enabler for Mane and Salah.

I think what a lot of you are missing here Is that even thought Firmino is not scoring as many goals himself he is still providing the opportunities for both Salah and Mane, but Mane in particular seems to be the one that can not convert his chances this season.

For me, Firmino's drop of in goal scoring form is a slight worry, and Mane drop off in goal scoring form is a major concern

Edit :- maybe we should be playing a Jota,Firmino, Salah front three, Player Mane with the reserves for a couple of weeks. Let him regain his goal scoring confidence again

The multi million pound question however is with what? Catastrophic losses this season, mostly depreciating values of our current players, and a rising wage bill. Now, no Champions League football, as the icing on the cake.

I fear our depressing reality is that if he’s going to make widescale squad changes one of the big boys is getting sold to fund it

Ideally yes, but it didn't matter until Pickford committed GBH because we had the best defender in world football taking care of business at the back. EVERYTHING changed when that ape mugged Virgil, even the fullbacks' freedom to go forward, which in turn has left Trent's defending exposed and Robbo sh@gged out from trying to play as a fullback and a wing-back rolled into one. Even so, we could and would have ridden the storm out far better if Gomez and Matip had stayed fit. It's not the only problem we've had, but it lies at the root of the others, IMO of course.

Hard to argue with any of this.

Definitely the root cause of all the other problems, exacerbated by the other factors you mention (where I’d also add the lack of depth in the squad in our key positions of full back is another... the back up left back really hasnt come off as a signing)

I think what you are missing is his name if FIRMINO not Frimino ! He's only been here SIX years FFS !

Clearly spell checked incorrectly, as I simply don't make those kind of errors.

*cough cough
Let ge who is without spelling mistakes cast the first stone 😉
I make them, and more often than not I don't proof read... while others here choose to concentrate on those mistakes, I just try and concerntrate on the point being made, But if it bothers you so much I'll correct it
