I don't know if we have a choice. It's almost certain that we'll be weaker in that position, and at backup for it in the coming years.

Quansah did his job there and played him off, as did Gomez and Bradley.
Chance never would've arrived if Robbo knew what a defensive line was.

Yeah - I’m not sure what some people’s expectations are - that he performs like prime Virgil now?
He had his fair share of errors last season - one against Utd, where he blind passed it to Bruno to lob it over our keeper - can’t remember if it was the league or cup game.
It’s not a concern… he’s supposed to make mistakes at 21 - at the same age, Virgil was just establishing himself at Groningen.
He’ll learn from this and I’m sure Slot will help him.
Feel really sorry for him. But it wasn't just his fuck up for their first, the deflection was just unlucky but he was taking risks moving into midfield himself and his passing into midfield gave the ball away a few times. Must be devastating as he had had a good game overall until the last 20 mins or whatever it was.
But he'll still start the same team bar a choice here and there between established players.
Mamardashvili Looked a great keeper at the Euros ( wasn't he in the team of the tournament? I forget) and he looks excellent in Spain. Him and Jaros should be very good when Ali leaves in a year or two or three

The less players we “have” to play regularly the more likely we’ll win something.
Certainly getting a consistent partner for Virgil is key to an improved defence.
So this game I think had Liverpool employ the so-called "false 9" system with Szoboszlai playing in that position. And the "false 9" would be a technically agile and unselfish player with good ball distribution skills. Like Firmino. And he is flanked on both sides with two super pacey wingers (Gakpo and Diaz) along with super pacey overlapping wingbacks Robertson and Bradley (in this game).
Szoboszlai appears like he could fit that role. In theory he has all the attributes but I don't think he ever played in such a position at his prior clubs. That position is pretty advanced for him as he is more of a "traditional" and deeper midfielder. And the player in that position is not supposed to be a Number 9, but it is still supposed to sniff for goals at all times which means that he should be something like Number 9 but not quite. It's a tricky position. Not Number 10 and not Number 9.
I think he generally played very well. He appeared more aggressive in the middle of the pitch and made some nice passes. Unfortunate not to score though. And defensively he exhibited great engine and willingness. Like he is coming into his own with pressing and other type of strenuous defensive work. But this was against Brighton in a cup game.

This sounds like nepotism from Slot. Many football leagues are run and operated like that. Players are preferred. Players are recommended to clubs and sent to clubs in which they will be preferred by the managers. So that this is some sort of Dutch nepotism factor going on at LFC. For some reason Slot finds it very hard to treat Gakpo like he treats other players. Some Dutch individuals within some Dutch organizations might pressure Slot to ensure giving Gakpo great and strong opportunities. And special treatment. Perhaps Slot's own career has been developed and pushed by such Dutch individuals and/or organizations. Or some Dutch individuals and/or organizations can make things difficult for Slot in Holland unless he is seen giving Gakpo special treatment. Something like that.
Think about it? WhyTF would Slot stutter like that when dealing with a situation and issue that is very trivial and has to do with how and when players should be played. Consider Rafa Benitez for a moment if you remember him. I never saw him stutter about things such as whether to play Riera or Pennant or whether one or the other is in a tough competition or is a "regular" starter or not.
Slot is very tough and firm with certain players. But with certain other players he is incapable of being so firm and tough. What he should do is treat all players the same.

He's started and figured fairly regularly enough, but Diaz has been in good form and they both play the same role. I get what he's saying though, it's not like he hasn't played, he's just finding it hard to incorporate both, when neither are really suited to playing down the middle and you're not going to oust Salah.
Very good performance and the game should have won by 1-3, however Quansah has lost concentration for the first goal, and unlucky for the second goal! Szobo is a total useless in front of goals, he had many open goals this season so far and missed them all.
