I agree, but the defenders are playing like Sunday League players, there's no excuse for the way Coates fails to stick his foot in for their third when he has the chance, right before the lay off.

The defense has been shit this season and if this is what we're finding out now that we're trying to open up our play more, then maybe we need new defenders.

Someone said in the match thread that BR was like a rabbit in the headlights which I thought was an unfair characterisation. We may have lost the game but BR made the change early in the second half when things started going wrong, and with a double sub of SG and Suarez it was a very positive move- hard to imagine a more aggressive move to wrest control of the game. As we were pressing for the equaliser he introduced Sterling. All positive subs – all subs that made complete sense in the context of the game. This wasn't the seemingly pre-programmed WTF subs by Rafa on 65 minutes whatever was happening, or the dithering of Woy.

It certainly someone paralysed by an inability to act in an attempt to influence the game.
