Gerrard and Lucas are to blame for the 3rd goal imho. Ming could obviously done much much better aswell.

Is he really? If he is that's superb news, but I'm sure he's out for he season.

He had surgery around the 24th of November, and it was predicted he'd be back in full training in 8-10 weeks. With any luck he could playing again early in February.

craazy game, at one point I thought a point might be good.

Sterling was immense - he will get better and better
Sturridge - we have missed that cutting edge, with him we would have beaten chelsea and city
Midfield - overran at time and retention of the ball was shocking - keep ball and stoke can do anything, but we were in panic mode
cissokho - has there been a worse left back? Konchesky?
Coutinho - we needed him to help keep the ball and momentun, slightly off the boil.

No subs during injury time? Slightly naive. Ibe, or Alberto coming on, waste some time and support morale a little?

@Spaghetti Legs, the reason Cissokho often finds himself in so much space is because the opposition know he's not worth marking.

It was, in many ways, an awful performance from us. I hope Rodgers is unhappy with it because we looked very suspect for most of the game and conceded 3 goals as a result.

Thankfully - and we've been saying this all season - we have the likes of Suarez to bail us out. Fantastic to see Sturridge come straight back in and remind us what we've been missing as well.

Lastly, another great outing for Sterling. This kid is proving himself fairly indispensable at the moment. The fact that subbing him off over Coutinho with all the hype the latter gets would've been unthinkable today just serves to underline that. I just hope he can kick on and really take his game to the next level because it seems like he's been working hard to get to where he is now.

.

In fairness, he said after the match that he wasn't happy with alot of our play, he said he knows where we need to improve. Let's be honest aswell, it's not just a personnel issue, it doesn't matter who plays, we're vulnerable full stop. He needs to sort out his defensive coaching and we need to sort out the full back positions ASAP. It's still abundantly clear aswell that we need a decent presence in midfield. I thought we battled quite well today in parts but we gave the ball away far too much and are pretty incapable of winning it back.

Because of injuries we've barely been able to play a settled back 4 though. We've hardly had the same back 4 from game to game. With players coming back, and hopefully staying fit, we might actually be able to forge a defensive unit. At the minute it is a collection of defenders rather a tight defensive group.

Suarez and Sturridge are so good, they should be firing us to the title, not helping us scrape into the CL.

If we had a stable core of committed, error-free players, we'd be in with a shout. That and reliable full-backs - even Enrique and the Johnson of old would suffice.

I'm just not convinced with the quality of the core of the central five - the GK, the two CBs and the 2 deeper CMs. Rodgers doesn't help either with some major head-scratching moves.

I don't tend to watch interviews so wouldn't know what he said! I'm glad that he said what he did in that case.

As has been pointed out already, I think we made things hard for ourselves a lot of the time by giving the ball away cheaply, but yeah I thought today the team was carrying a couple passengers and that's never going to be easy.

I'd love to get Adriano off Barca. He's brilliantly versatile (can play anywhere on the left or right) and unlike some attacking fullbacks, he actually contributes in attack *gasp*.

Well yeah, but there are times when the backline have had a run and the inevitable happens. We're lacking a real leader in there who will organise the back four. Skrtel's doing a decent job at times in taking the initiative, but he too is fairly erratic and it's not helping that Johnson is all over the fucking place, half the time Skrtel's covering a few positions to mop up other peoples complacency and fuck ups.

Soz, I just mean he's obviously not completely happy with everything, despite the goals, hopefully it's not just all talk.

Who played in the run of 1-0s at the start of the season? Not having Enrique is massive. He can't come back soon enough.

True, I still think we looked pretty vulerable then though, I thought we looked a bit better with Flanno playing. People might argue we lose something going forward, but we've got a hugely talented attack.

Agger? 😉

Agger's played in plenty of games since (and before) where we've conceded soft goals, so it's not really a given that he'd shore things up, because we've seen the same lack of dominance in there enough times when he's figured.

Got most clean sheets, though...

TBH I don't think anyone could have stopped Crouchy's goal unless they gave away a penalty and I most certainly would not assign blame for it. No-one was going to get to that ball (that he moved away from the goal for) against Crouchy's 8' 11" - it was quite simply a superb header.

I wonder if Agger would get the same sympathies.

I'm pissed off Toure didn't make him work for it, so from me agger would have got similar grief.

I'm more pissed off with Suarez/Johnson (more so Johnson though) attempt at "defending" that cross

Before this game I made a prediction but I didn't tell anyone. Lose and we're fucked, draw and we will make top four, win and we are definitely title contenders.

We weren't brilliant but we fought like tigers today and won a match that in previous seasons we would have just rolled over and handed to the opposition. That said our fullbacks were absolutely dire and something radical needs to be done in that area.

I don't see Chelsea and City dropping many points in the up coming games so it'll take some effort from us to win the league.
One game at a time.

I wanted the league before the City game ... I now just want 3rd/4th ... Let's get that, keep Suarez and continue the upward curve

We can beat City and Chelsea at Anfield for sure though. Those six-pointers will really help us at the end of the day. It's a season of 2 halves after all

I want third, that'll do me. 4th will be great, but that qualifier in August is a cunt. We need to win all our games up to and including Everton at home. Huge month for the club.
