Player of the year

Mata is excellent. Cazorla had a decent year too. Both enjoyed a better year than Silva who I rate as the better player of the three.

Michu slowed up after an impressive start to the season. Suarez should get it but it will obviously go to Wonder Bale.

Yeah I think Bale will win it, hardly a travesty though, hes probably been the second best player in the league this season. Hes a media darling and a British player so thats obviously in his favour over all the other candidates

Im sure if you gave Suarez a choice between the golden boot and the PFA awards he would take the golden boot every time, the PFA is just a popularity contest, something he seems unlikely to win and unlikely to give a shit about, hes not exactly Mr Public Relations is he

I can understand carricks name being mentioned but Mata has scored 18 and assisted 23 in a season of turmoil. He's an understated player, but definitely one deserving of high praise. Carrick, I can't say I've overly noticed doing anything more than usual. Great when given the time and space, a bit meh under pressure.

The recent England game summed Carrick up for me. First half superb as given loads of time to look up. Second half put under loads of pressure and started going backwards

He has achieved a lot with limited talent to be fair

What about player of the year that has had a shocking season considering how good they could and should be.

1 - Adam Johnson
2 - David silva
3 - Ashley young

Bale will win it but I really hope Suarez gets the Writer's version because he so damn well deserves it.

I can image it now.:

"The Barclays English Premiership award for player of the year that has had a shocking season considering how good they could and should be sponsored by The Carphone Warehouse in association with the Royal Horticulture Society of Tumbridge Wells goes to..."

Neville ignores Suarez in PFA selections

April 15, 2013
By ESPN staff
Everton captain Phil Neville has delivered a snub to Liverpool's Footballer of the Year candidate Luis Suarez by not even nominating the striker for a place in the PFA Team of the Season.

Suarez is the Premier League's top scorer with 22 goals, has struck 29 times in all competitions and is one of the favourites for the individual award, along with Tottenham's Gareth Bale and Manchester United's Robin van Persie.

But former United player Neville, who named Van Persie as his player of the year, selected Swansea's Michu ahead of Suarez when selecting his side of the season.

Footballers are not permitted to vote for their team-mates so Neville could not choose the likes of Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini.

He opted for four United players - Van Persie, Jonny Evans, Rio Ferdinand and Michael Carrick - two from Manchester City - Pablo Zabaleta and Yaya Toure - plus West Bromwich Albion's Ben Foster, Tottenham's Jan Vertonghen, Arsenal's Santi Cazorla, Bale and Michu.

Suarez is a controversial figure at Goodison Park with Everton believing he should have been sent off in October's derby for challenges on Kevin Mirallas and Sylvain Distin.

Ex man Utd player doesn't pick Lfc player in team of the year. I'd say I'm surprised but I'm not.

Sorry Fox but Young and Johnson have played to their full abilities this season i.e. they're both very, very average footballers.

Gareth Bale is 23 going on 24, and still qualifies for Young POTY? I suppose the media darling has to win at least one prize.

Luis Suarez deserves to be included in Player of the Year shortlist, says PFA chief Gordon Taylor

Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Gordon Taylor has defended the presence of Luis Suarez on a six-man shortlist for the union's Player of the Year award.

Suarez is up against Gareth Bale, Robin van Persie, Juan Mata, Eden Hazard and Michael Carrick in a six-man shortlist for the award.

But, while the Liverpool striker has scored 29 goals in his most prolific season for the club, his reputation has taken a hit in recent seasons.

Suarez was handed an eight-match ban for racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra last season and he has been dogged by allegations of diving.

Taylor said: "Sometimes controversy travels with players. Sometimes it is in their very nature. Sometimes it is that very intensity that causes a problem also makes sure they win.

"Luis Suarez is helping to restore Liverpool. It is a credit to them that he seems comfortable there and no one could deny he is one of the finest players in the world."

But Taylor admitted the the PFA would be put in an uncomfortable position if Suarez wins the award on April 28.

"It is very difficult at times," he said. "Players are expected to be top role models and set the finest example. That goes with the trade these days.

"I don't underestimate the need for them to do all they can to be seen as a good example. But they are also human beings. It is not always possible to put old heads on relatively young shoulders.

"This is a footballing award and Suarez's footballing ability shines through.

"It would be naive to think controversy won't continue to travel with him. But I think his football has maintained his place."

I've just noticed, how on earth did Michu miss out? He's been better than both Carrick and Hazard throughout the season.
