Mossy of those comments are horrifically bitter. The one about reds fucking their cousins made me laugh, considering almost every red family I can think of has the odd blue in it, & vice versa!

On my TV you could be on page 303 (live scores) of Ceefax (or 141 on the ITV version) and switch to the TV program - there woudl then be a little text icon in the corner of the screen. Whenever the content of the page changed the icon would change to a box with 303 in it and so you could switch back to see what score changed.
I just associate that with keeping an eye on Utd scores when they would be drawing 0-0 with some no mark team, and when the icon changed it would inevitably be "1-0 (Cantona, 90+3)"

Some of the remotes have a text button, i think thats what my dad uses and like the old stuff there is a page number for everything from news, sports news, businness, travel and even currency exhange rates and share prices , just like the old stuff in those blocky graphics.
Genuinely didn't know. Only watch live tv to watch footy, boxing, ufc, tennis or F1. If it's not any of the above it's watched through kodi (cos fuck watching shite uk drama, talent shows & reality shows, & fuck watching shite adverts).
As such I only watch through a hybrid cable/satellite box, which doesn't have any kind of text feature, & I've never seen anyone use it.
I know a fair few old people, & they all use tablets, smartphones or ipads (with the exception of one of Bex nans, who is in her 80's, uses a feature phone & is scared of all kinds of technology, including bank cards!).

My dad (in his late 60's) wanted a smart phone to use WhatsApp a few years ago, and before asking anyone of us "youngsters" - he went to the local O2 shop and they sold him a Nokia phone that had Windows OS on it. He came home and wanted us to configure and show him like how to use it, - I mean come on it's a fucking windows phone - all those blocks and shit made it so hard, so he just stuck to getting his info from that Text button on the remote.
