I agree with Rodgers original thought process that a defensive midfielder is for most of the time a waste of a more creative player. Certain games, however,United away, for example it's wise to have someone sit deeper , break-up play and be another line of defence before the back four. What we have seen since Lucas rose like a Phoenix from the flames is an inept plodding ineffective series of games, where far from bolstering the defence, we have had our trousers ripped off and given a right royal spanking. Yes, yes , that's not all Lucas's doing , but he's part of it, a big part of it.
I said on here years ago, until we get shut of Kuyt and Lucas we will never do anything - and that still stands.
I know a lot of people have a lot of time fir Lucas. Me? I just don't get it, and never have. He went through a purple patch a few seasons ago of four or five games, when I was prepared to eat humble pie , got injured and has reverted to somewhere between crap and average ever since. I think he's quite a nice lad by the way.
