Neven Subotic

Thinks he owns the place

We've discussed him a bit in another thread but it looks like this could be a possibility in January. Klopp signed him at both Mainz and Dortmund I think.
Turns 27 in a few days and has had a bit of a bad run with injuries.
Dont know that much about him bar what I've seen and he certainly is a quality player, but the injuries surely makes this a massive risk. For a low fee it might be worth it. Kolo is finished and there are questionmarks over both Skrtel and Lovren.

Zorc: "It is an unusual and difficult situation for Subotic. He's dealing with it all very professionally, but he is obviously not happy."

Zorc: "There are strong indications that Subotic will say his farewells in January."

Zorc: "There are always messages coming from England that Klopp would take Subotic to Liverpool."

Bild claim Neven Subotic is likely to leave Borussia Dortmund in the next transfer window

I can't pretend to be an expert on him but it has been mentioned a lot of times that he's had some very bad injuries. Would only be worth the risk at a lowish fee.

Yeah, the injuries makes it a massive risk. As you say a lowish fee might make it worth it.

A herniated disc followed by further bouts of back trouble isn't a good sign.

You can be sure he's going to have ongoing problems, and the difficulty is maintaining fitness when your injury requires so much rest and ongoing maintenance.

Will help the other players learn the defensive system quicker.

I recall the year that Dortmund made the CL final that Hummels was the one getting all the praise, but anytime I saw them Subotic seemed to be having the better performances. If he can stay fit theres no doubt there's a player there and would happily take him in place of Kolo.

I would take anyone in place of Kolo Toure

Would love Subotic at LFC! Hopefully he can stay fit if he does because he'd be an excellent addition to the defence

I like Subotic, in fact I thought he made Hummels look better than he is. He is a perfect steady, positionally intelligent partner for an adventurous LCB. Klopp knows him very well and he is just about the best person in the world to make an educated guess whether the injuries are likely to be a major hindrance or not. I'm sure Subotic will not want to hide anything from his mentor either. If Klopp decides to take the risk, then I can only support and welcome his decision.

Who would he be replacing...

If Subotic is fit and healthy, I would expect him to replace Skrtel. He is the same "reactive" type, also a RCB but more dominant in the air. Sakho is closer to the "proactive" type like Hummels, it could be potentially a very good pairing.

I thought Hummels was the steady (slow) one, and Subotic the more cavalier, dive in one?

Nope very difficult to recover fully from especially if there's been nerve damage which is highly possible

I think you got it backwards, mate 🙂 Although Subotic did have to "dive in" at times to save the day when Hummels got too adventurous and got caught out of position.

Are we going for the best injured XI in the league? That'd be our center back pairing sorted then.

Given Klopps unfortunate cavalier approach to the fitness of Daniel Sturridge, I'd be wary of him signing more injury prone players.

I know he doesn't really get much love on this board but Skrtel is one of the last players in our team I'd be looking to replace...

especially with a semi crocked geezer...

Don't know who he is, hopefully he's the one on the left as the other looks past it.
