I'm surprised no one has really addressed this, or maybe I missed it one of the big transfer threads.

Is anyone concerned about the money that's supposedly remaining from the Masher transfer? Is there any?

I said, as did a few others, that it would be unlikely we'd get 'everything' from the Masher sale. I don't know how much we've banked overall from sales, but only spending around £18m (regardless of structured payments, it's usually still accounted for) would be about right to me given our current predicament and costs surrounding signing on fees etc, which we can't dismiss as Purslow seemed happy to use that and wages within last years budget.

So.... Did the Cole deal (not that I'm fussed much) fall through because our offer didn't meet their valuation, or because Babel didn't go? Regardless, it shouldn't have been left until the last minute, when it was such a pressing issue, but every club seems to do it, strangely.

Anyway, regards strikers, you'd have to hope that Roy won't be as stubborn as Rafa and will go with two upfront when Torres is absent, which could make a bit of difference. N'Gog has done reasonably well on his own, but would fair much better with a forward alongside him. As for Babel, well maybe this will be the making of him.

Well, we all remember what happened after we tried to sell Alonso.

Somehow though, I doubt we're going to see a similar transformation with Babel. He probably isn't going to get enough opportunities to improve anyways. He'll stay on the bench, get the odd appearance here and there and it'll be the same 'ol, same 'ol.

I think Asbo posted that we spent £25m and recouped £26m this summer. If that's true, I wouldn't have been surprised if any striker purchase was dependent on a sale on the last day.

Given the extremely tight financial constraints, I think the window's been OK-ish. In the context of other teams, though, it's not good enough. We simply can't go on having a zero net spend and challenging for the top 4. We'll be overtaken by Birmingham and Sunderland at this rate, never mind Spurs and City.

If we had qualified for the CL we would have had more to spend. And we won't have more money to spend until we do that and/or reduce the wage bill.

At least Juve are paying all of Aquilani's wages. Anything less would have been even more farcical than the worst transfer in recent memory has been already.

Of course, the Keane debacle runs it close.

We should be spending less than we are earning. We are in debt.

It's to Roy Hodgson's credit that squad strength (on paper) hasn't been unduly compromised, and on the balance between sales and buy's he appears to be in credit.

As regards the late bid for Cole it maybe that was as a consequence of the timing of Mascherano's deal.

About the Manager's likely formations, it's too early to tell as he's tried different line-up's in different matches already. He's an experienced Manager but with new players so has to test what he's got to see what they can do (e.g Babel is untested upfront).

Theres no way Joe cole signed on a free. He will have pocketed a few million upfront; Probably not far off your projected 'profit'

The BBC reported it as a player swap, seen other places saying the same. Guess it'll be one we see for sure when the books come out in a year.

There is also the undisclosed fees for plessis and cavelieri..I Read that we made a profit of c £9.5M this transfer window.

So waht ahppened to Pursssslow's "Player Account"?

I don't think we will have a money to spend until we're sold. And that will hopefully happen before or just after Oct 6th.

Wasn't the bid for Cole 7 - 9 mill or something, with Babel going there either on loan or in a swap deal.

We also made a bid for Pavlychenko. I think 9 mill profit is a about right. It's a scandal, but we're used to that now. 4th transfer window we've made a profit..

Four windows in a row? Really? I think that qualifies us officially as a "selling club".

As Ross said earlier though if we had qualified for the CL we would probably have had more spare cash. As it was we didn't so we can't expect to be splashing loads of cash.

Being shit when we were in the CL last year would have cost us as it was but given that we didn't even get to the qualifying round this year I'm surprised we even got to spend what we did!

I don't think that the fact we don't have a net spend is necessarily a disaster. We can still challenge for the top 4 as long as the players we do buy are better than the ones we sell. The problem in the last few transfer windows is that this hasn't been the case. I am hoping it will be this time

The most important person at our club for the next 4 months;

Peter Bruckner - Keeping Fernando fit.

Well, he said that football was miles behind the rest of the sporting world when it came to his profession. So, giving Torres a programme that hopefully ends his troubles with groins and hamstring pulls means he'll be fit. It's not the tackles that have been the problem is it??

How much was that in the end? Was it reduced because he got another job so quickly and did we get pay offs for the backroom staff he took with him (did he actually take any?)?

If he follows a special programme that is designed for him, as Bruckner has said. It doensn't matter if he plays for Spain or Liverpool.

Yeah, but Spain don't follow his training program. We had an argument with them cos they refused to allow him to train in a different manner as we had asked them to.
